Makeup Artist Responds To Viral TikTok Bride Redoing Her Makeup

Another day, another bride on TikTok making the whole app go up in arms. And this time, the makeup artist (MUA, if you will) community is pissed.

TikTok user @laurenaveryh posted a video just two days ago of her getting ready to wash her professionally done makeup off 20 minutes before the first look at her wedding. Over the video, she posted the text “core memory: getting my makeup done for my wedding & I hated it so much I decided to wash it off and redo it myself.” In the video, she’s seen visibly anxious about washing the makeup off, with a friend’s hand patting her back as she goes for it. She and her friend discuss just telling the MUA to leave because she doesn’t “want to see her.” She posts a picture of her makeup done, and then, at the end of the video, she posts a picture of her face after she does her own makeup… which happens to look almost identical to the first makeup look.

Now, if you’re one of the people going, “What’s the issue? She wasn’t happy with her makeup, so she just took it off and redid it herself,” that’s totally fair. But in the video, the bride says, “I can’t wait to make a TikTok about this,” which seems to have rubbed people the wrong way. So much so that the video now has more than 33.1 million views in just two days. On top of that, I have seen countless videos on my FYP of different people (especially MUAs) weighing in on whether or not they thought the bride was in the wrong.

Why Are People Mad At The Bride?

@laurenaveryh core memory / fever dream : redoing my makeup 20 minutes before my first look 👰🏼‍♀️💍✨no offense to the makeup artist I just didn’t feel like myself 💘 #wedding #weddingmakeup #weddingday #storytime #weddinghorrorstory #lol #makeup ♬ original sound – laur

People are pissed at the bride. Why? A few things. One, a lot of MUAs explained that they’re always open to feedback and making any changes if their clients are unhappy with any aspect of their look. The bride wiping off her makeup and then refusing to see her MUA gives the impression that she never bothered to give her the chance to fix it for her. TikTok users also pointed out that posting the video felt like a very mean-girl move (even though, in the bride’s defense, she never posted the name of the MUA).

Because of this traction, the MUA, who was responsible for the wedding makeup, posted a video response, too. In fact, she made a TikTok account just to respond.

The Makeup Artist’s Response

@twirlyshears not what I expected for my TikTok debut 😅 #wedding #weddingmakeup #weddingday #storytime #weddinghorrorstory #makeup ♬ original sound – TwirlyShears

The MUA, @twirlyshears on TikTok, explained that she was super shocked when she saw the video because, according to her, the bride gave her no indication that she was unhappy with her makeup look. Also, she mentions that the wedding was actually back in August, meaning the bride waited five months before posting her video. The MUA explains that it wasn’t hurtful that the bride decided to wash off her makeup — I mean, that’s her money washing down the drain because she got paid already — but more that she thought the bride was of a different “character” than what the MUA first thought.

She ends the video with a message to brides: You don’t have to hire a MUA for your wedding if you like the way you do your own makeup! Also, if you do hire one, they’re there for you. You’re paying for their services so if you really don’t like something… let them know.

The Bride’s Response

While the whole internet seems to have weighed in and gone even harder once the MUA put her two cents in, the original creator still hasn’t said anything about the attention the video has received. Betches reached out to her for comment but did not receive a response by the time this article was published.
