Rocker Chris Burney reveals he’s lost two toes – after leaving Bowling For Soup due to ‘medical developments’

Bowling For Soup rocker and founding member Chris Burney has revealed he’s had two toes removed after he retired due to ”medical developments”.

The Texan native, 55, shared a post with fans on his Instagram account, showing off his left foot after losing the toes.

But proving he was just as cheeky and in good spirits as ever, he wrote: “I’m a free-nubbin, butt-rubbin son of a gun.”

“Losing 2 toes. Now that’s punk rock 🤘,” a fan commented underneath.

In August last year, he shared a picture of his foot with just his big toe missing, writing: “Alright kids, this is why you don’t leave knives hanging out on the kitchen counter!👻.”

But in December, he revealed he had two toes removed in total and showed off his foot in a brace.

However, the American musician has not specified exactly why he’s had two toes amputated.

In January, it was announced Burney was officially retiring from the band he helped start in the ’90s.

The statement said he was leaving due to “some recent medical developments”.

“It is with a heavy heart we announce that Chris Burney has made the decision to retire from his stage-right post in the band he co-founded in 1994,” it began.

”Some recent medical developments, 30 years of rocking balls and touring non-stop have made it difficult to continue. We are bummed to not have Chris by our sides, but absolutely support his decision.”

The group, consisting of Jaret Reddick, Gary Wiseman and Rob Felicetti, insisted to fans that the band’s “future remains bright” and that they’re continuing on “with Chris’ blessing”.

They also called the rocker a “legend” and said they won’t be “replacing Chris”.

The band are known for tracks including Girl All the Bad Guys Want, Punk Rock 101 and 1985.

Speaking to Kerrang! Magazine about Burney, bandmate Jaret Reddick shared an update on how Burney was doing.

“He’s as good as he can be. He’s got some health stuff going on that’s going to require some physical recovery,” he explained.

He added: “As always, he’s got a joke for everything. And mentally, at least, he’s still firing away.”

The pair co-founded the band together and he said his bandmate “retires a legend”.

Last year, the group celebrated 30 years together and Reddick told the Dallas Observer: “It’s pretty wild to think about. It’s over half of mine and Chris [Burney]’s lives.”

He added: “None of us would have told you 30 years ago that we would be doing this in 30 years. I feel very lucky.”
