Prince William’s forehead scar, reminiscent of Harry Potter’s, originated from a childhood golf mishap, not a magical encounter. During a Wales visit, he recounted being accidentally struck by a golf club. The scar, sometimes glowing, adds to his charm and has become a part of his identity.
Prince William: Childhood Accident Leaves a Lasting Mark
During a recent visit to Wales, Prince William opened up about the origin of a peculiar scar on his forehead that he famously likens to Harry Potter’s lightning bolt. The Prince of Wales, known for his environmental advocacy, was in the country on June 11th to meet with businesses using seaweed to create eco-friendly products.
While conversing with Pierre Pasier of Notpla, a company that makes plastic alternatives, William reminisced about a childhood accident that left him with the iconic mark. As Pasier showed him a prototype golf tee made from seaweed, the prince quipped, “No golf for me,” pointing to his forehead.
The Harry Potter Connection
According to a previous interview with BBC Newsround, Prince William has referred to the scar as his “Harry Potter scar” due to its distinctive appearance. “I call it that because it glows sometimes, and some people notice it; other times, they don’t notice it at all,” he explained.
So, what exactly caused this permanent mark? Contrary to popular belief, it wasn’t a failed murder attempt by the infamous Lord Voldemort. Instead, as the Prince of Wales revealed, the scar resulted from a rather mundane – yet painful – incident involving a golf club.
A Golfing Mishap
“I got hit by a golf club when I was playing golf with a friend,” William recalled. “We were on a putting green, and the next thing you know, there was a seven iron, and it came out of nowhere and hit me in the head.”
While the scar is only slightly visible over his left eye and doesn’t resemble the iconic lightning bolt shape, it has undoubtedly become a part of Prince William’s identity – and a talking point for his admirers.
Brush with Wizardry
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the Prince of Wales has had a brush with the wizarding world. In 2013, William, his wife Kate Middleton (who was pregnant with Prince George at the time), and his brother Prince Harry visited the opening of the “Making of Harry Potter” studio tour at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, UK.
The trio took wand lessons during their visit, explored the Great Hall, and viewed film props. They even engaged in a wand duel and were presented with their own wands at the end of the tour – a truly magical experience.
Whether it’s his environmental initiatives or his connection to the beloved Harry Potter franchise, Prince William continues to captivate audiences with his unique blend of royal duties and relatable charm.
