Nicole Kidman may have been brutally snubbed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the United States, but she’ll always be the apple of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts‘ eye.
That’s according to the 2025 AACTA International Awards, with winners including Kidman – Best Lead Actress in Babygirl, her fourth AACTA International Award – being revealed this morning.
Neighbours alum and first-time Oscar nominee Guy Pearce also scored a statuette, being named Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Brutalist.

Global stars Jesse Eisenberg, Ralph Fiennes and Zoe Saldaña were also among winners, with Robbie Williams’ biographical musical movie Better Man being named Best Film.
Australia’s own Elizabeth Debicki has also collected yet another award for her portrayal of Princess Diana in Netflix’s The Crown, being named Best Actress in a Series.
It comes as Hollywood’s awards season heats up, with Pearce among a slew of veterans – including Saldaña, Demi Moore, Isabella Rossellini and Ariana Grande – who are campaigning for an Oscar for the first time.

Nicole Kidman’s life and career in photos
Notably absent from the running is Kidman, who had been on the Best Lead Actress campaign trail since August.
Babygirl premiered at the 81st Venice Film Festival, which saw Kidman win the Volpi Cup for Best Actress – though Babygirl director Halina Reijn was forced to accept the award on Kidman’s behalf.
Shortly after arriving in Venice for the festival, Kidman learned her “beautiful, brave” mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, had died, and abruptly left for Australia.

“I’m in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her. She shaped me, she guided me and she made me. I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina,” Reijn relayed on behalf of Kidman as she accepted the award.
“The collision of life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken.”
The Australian actress missed the film’s Toronto International Film Festival premiere in September, but resumed her campaign at the end of that month with an appearance at Paris Fashion Week that had everyone talking thanks to an awkward interaction with Salma Hayek.
Random places where celebrities keep their awards
Kidman’s Oscars snub – and those of Angelina Jolie and Pamela Anderson – came as a shock, with the Moulin Rouge star being nominated for a Gotham Award and Golden Globe, among others, for her performance.
