Adam Devine’s Health Journey: His MyFitnessPal Partnership and 2025 Goals

If you recognize the name Adam Devine, chances are you know the comedian from his projects Pitch Perfect (2012), Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (2016) or Modern Family (2009-2020). But now, the actor and proud father of Beau, born in October 2023 to wife Chloe Bridges,  is teaming up with MyFitnessPal, ready to make the most of his health and fitness goals. Find out how Devine is using the tracking app to keep up with his nutrition and how you can, too!

First for Women (FFW): What made you want to team up with MyFitnessPal?

Adam Devine: Becoming a dad rocked my world in the best kind of way, and it made me want to take better care of myself health-wise so that I can enjoy every single minute to the fullest extent. I’ve always been into my health but after Beau was born, I found that I had to make choices between working out or being with him—so I was working out a lot less. That’s when I started paying more attention to what I eat and tracking my food with MyFitnessPal, because it helped me realize that I don’t have to be perfect, I just need to balance out my day and be more mindful. You can have a piece of fried chicken. Just don’t have eleven pieces. Balance, baby!

FFW: How has the MyFitnessPal app helped you to keep track of your health journey and goals while also allowing you to keep a “progress over perfection” mindset?

Devine: I’m striving for more sustained healthier eating instead of over-indulging and then trying to be too strict. That’s why using MyFitnessPal has been helpful, because the more I log my food, the more I can see trends and if I’m going off track, I can reel it back in. If I want to eat a chocolate chip cookie, I’ll eat it—but then I try to balance it out the rest of the day or week with healthier choices. One of my favorite features is the barcode scan, because it makes it so easy to log anything that’s pre-packaged, but I also like voice logging because I’m lazy. Reframe your thinking and focus on progress over trying to be perfect. Just knowing where you stand allows for slip-ups, setbacks, vacations, or parties. MyFitnessPal is tracking for real life—it’s a no-brainer.

FFW: Has tracking your food become a useful habit throughout your health and fitness journey?

Devine: Absolutely! I’ll admit that I’m someone who didn’t know that much about the nutritional value of the foods I eat, so it’s been really helpful to see everything in one place and understand how each choice contributes to my daily intake. I am always trying to find ways of getting more protein, so when I was filming The Righteous Gemstones, my co-star, Tony Cavelaro gave me these great homemade protein balls. They were delicious and small, so I was eating like 3-4 a day until at some point I looked into the ingredients more and realized they were about 300 calories each—these tiny things! I had no idea how calorie-dense they were. Tracking my food helps me actually know what I’m eating so I don’t accidentally devour 1,000 calories of homemade protein balls. By plugging my food into MyFitnessPal, I know what I’m putting into my body—they have one of the largest databases in the world, so almost everything you can think of is in there. It’s pretty awesome.

FFW: Does MyFitnessPal keep you from enjoying your favorite foods/snacks or are you able to still indulge?

Devine: It’s all about progress over perfection! I have an annual guy’s trip with family and friends where we smash a lot of steaks and beer. I usually let it fly for this particular weekend because we look forward to it every year. When I got home, I weighed myself and had gained 8 lbs. in one weekend! But it’s ok to have a day or weekend off the routine. I just logged what I ate and moved on. Then I reset myself for the next week, so it balanced out.

FFW: What are your best strategies for staying on track and keeping with the ‘progress over perfection’ mindset?

Devine: I recommend keeping an arsenal of quick, easy-to-make healthy recipes so that you have some go-to options to whip up/meal prep on a weekly basis. I shared a few of my favorite high-protein recipes with MyFitnessPal, and they can be seen here. I’m no chef but they are quick and easy, and I now have the vague outline of abs! Listen to my wisdom!

FFW: You’ve spoken about losing ‘dad weight’ following your wife’s pregnancy — what is your advice to those in a similar situation, looking to get back on track?

Devine: With the extra weight, I felt and looked bloated, so it was uncomfortable. I didn’t look like myself! But now, after eating healthier and making better choices, I can see it in my face—it’s leaner onscreen, and I have less puffiness overall. I fit in my skinny guy jeans and my medium tee shirts no longer look like I’m stuffed inside a hot dog casing.  Seeing those little changes keeps me motivated. Celebrate those milestones, too. Sometimes the biggest wins aren’t the numbers on the scale—it’s how you feel, how your clothes fit or even your energy level. I’m hyped! Tracking with MyFitnessPal helps you see your progress over time, which helps keep me motivated.

FFW: How has your health journey been since joining MyFitnessPal?

Devine: My focus now is on eating more protein, drinking less alcohol and cutting back on red meat. In 2025, I’m doubling down on my nutrition goals and want to eat cleaner and generally be more aware of what I’m eating—tracking helps me know what I put in my body.

FFW: Has this partnership allowed you to integrate healthier habits into your everyday life?

Devine: I like seeing the trends over time and finding those little details I didn’t know before, like you can eat a protein bagel and think protein is great so you’re doing the right thing. But when you log it, you realize it has a ton of sugar. That knowledge helps me make adjustments to stay focused.

FFW: I know our readers will be interested in emulating your success. Do you have any advice for those looking to tie nutrition and weight loss into their New Year’s resolutions? How would you recommend they get started on this type of journey?

Devine: Let go of the idea of perfection! Trying to achieve perfection just sets you up to fail. Progress isn’t linear, so there will be setbacks; you need to tell yourself this at the outset. You don’t have to be perfect to get results.

Track, Track, Track Again! Just track your food with MyFitnessPal to know where you stand, but life happens so don’t let that derail you. Nutrition tracking should fit into the realities of everyday life. It’s not about one meal—it’s about finding balance over the day, week, or month—and making progress. Tracking brings awareness to my eating habits, so I don’t have to overthink it and stay on a path that works for my life.
