Are ‘My Fault: London’ & ‘Culpa Mía’ The Same? Culpables Books

If you’re a Wattpad girlie and you haven’t obsessed over Prime Video’s My Fault: London or Culpa Mía yet, WTF are you waiting for? There’s steamy romance, beautiful European cities, fancy cars, and even a dash of crime. It’s everything a basic bitch (me) wants and more. The Spanish-language film, Culpa Mía, came out in June 2023 and was such a massive hit that there’s already a sequel out, Culpa Tuya, and a third film in the franchise on the way this year. My Fault: London, the English-language version of the story, just arrived on the streaming platform in February. Are Culpia Mía and My Fault: London exactly the same? Are both films based on books? Allow me, an expert on the subject, to break it down.

Indeed! The movie is based on the first book in Argentine author Ron Mercedes’ Culpables Saga, a trilogy that became known via Wattpad. Ya know, the same platform that gave us gems like After and The Kissing Booth. Since there are two more books in the Culpables series, it’s likely that we’ll get two more movies to follow up My Fault: London. (The next installments would be titled Your Fault: London and Our Fault: London, based on the books.) That being said, a sequel movie hasn’t officially been confirmed yet.

So yes, My Fault: London and Culpa Mía are both based on the same series of books, and they both tell the same general story. That being said, there are a few notable differences between the Spanish-language adaptation and the English-language adaptation. For starters, Noah and Nick are different ages in the movies: In Culpa Mía, Nick is 21 and Noah’s 17 (biiig yikes), and in My Fault: London, Nick is 19 and Noah’s 18. Very glad they made that necessary adjustment for the London version!!

Generally speaking, I’d say Culpa Mía is more sex-driven and less character development-driven. In My Fault: London, Noah and Nick get to have a slow burn romance and a genuine emotional connection as well as a physical connection. It’s easy for viewers to understand why they’re attracted to each other’s personalities. (Noah likes Nick’s good heart and courage, and Nick likes Noah’s tough exterior and car-racing talents, and how she makes him a better person, etc. etc.)

While Culpa Mía really focuses on how wrong their relationship is because of the step-sibling factor, that’s hardly even addressed in My Fault: London. I don’t think Nick and Noah even bring it up once, lol. Maybe that will present more of a conflict in the sequel movie if there is one…
