Ariana Grande on Audrey Hepburn Biopic Rumors: ‘You’re Insane’

People have wondered if Hollywood would ever make a biopic about the late actress and philanthropist Audrey Hepburn for years. However, a big question of concern was who would play Hepburn. And now, it seems the internet has finally chosen someone: Wicked star Ariana Grande! Keep scrolling to learn why they want the Grammy award-winning singer to play the Breakfast at Tiffany’s star and what Grande has to say about rumors surrounding the Audrey biopic

In recent weeks, Grande has been stepping out in looks that scream golden age Hollywood. Most recently, Grande wore a stunning pink Loewe gown that caused an Access Hollywood reporter to tell Grande that she was “kind of channeling a little Audrey Hepburn.”

Grande was very pleased with that comment and replied, “I’ve always loved old Hollywood glamour—like Marilyn [Monroe] and Audrey [Hepburn] have always been my references.

“I’ve always gravitated toward ’50s, ’60s silhouettes, and retro vintage … I can’t even think of a time when that wasn’t my vision board. But it’s been more fun to have more places to really do that.”

Prior to that the singer and actress walked the Golden Globes red carpet in a simple 1966 gold dress with long white gloves, which an archivist at Givenchy said was “from the epic Givenchy Haute Couture/Audrey Hepburn era.”

All of these looks have since gone viral, causing people to speculate whether Grande was campaigning to play Hepburn in a biopic about her life.

As shown with the Wicked press tour, Grande does love to center her red carpet looks around her character, so it makes sense that she would try and dress as close to Hepburn as possible to try and win the coveted role, but according to her, that could not be further from the truth.

“Oh my goodness, why is everyone asking me this? You’re insane!” Grande said when asked if she would ever play Hepburn. “You’re insane, you’re insane, you’re insane. You’re insane. I love you.”

What we know about the Audrey Hepburn biopic

Despite Grande’s looks—and the theories currently buzzing around on the internet—the Hepburn biopic already has a lead: Rooney Mara.

Announced back in January 2022, the film was supposed to be written by Michael Mitnick and directed by Luca Guadagnino, who is best known for his work on things like Call Me by Your Name (2017), Bones and All (2022) and Challengers (2024). But, according to Mara, in February 2024, he has since left the project.

“Luca is no longer going to be directing it, but the project is still very much alive,” the actress said.

Mara is an Oscar-nominated actress who can be found in The Social Network (2010), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), Side Effects (2013), Carol (2015) and La Cocina (2024). She is also very famously the partner of actor Joaquin Phoenix and has been since 2016.

As of the publication date, it is believed that the Hepburn biopic doesn’t have a new director and hasn’t even begun filming. It is also unclear what the potential film will be about, but it is rumored to follow Hepburn throughout her entire professional career.

The film will be the first of its kind for Hepburn and Mara.
