Music superstar Billy Joel is more than just a talented singer, songwriter and musician—he also happens to be a doting girl dad. While his two youngest daughters, Della, 9, and Remy, 7, are enjoying growing up with an A-list dad, his first daughter with Christie Brinkley, Alexa, has forged a path similar to her father’s—and though there was quite a bit of time between when he first welcomed Alexa and when he welcomed Della and Remy, fatherhood is a gig that Joel has always loved.
“My favorite thing about my whole life is probably being a father,” the singer told Rolling Stone back in 2017. “I didn’t have a father, so it was very important to me to be a father and kind of compensate for what I didn’t have.” Here, get to know Billy Joel’s three daughters and what he’s said about the lovely ladies in his life!
Alexa Ray Joel
Considering Alexa’s parents are Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that show business was in her blood. Now 38-year-old Alexa has been singing and writing music since she was young, sharing the same love and passion for the craft as her father and even sharing the stage with him many times over the years. Her debut album was the 2006 EP Sketches, and her most recent release was her 2021 single “Seven Years,” which she released after a 10-year hiatus from recording.
“It kind of was inevitable for me to take this path, regardless of the hardships, being under the shadow, possibly being labeled with nepotism and all of those things that come with that that aren’t always so pleasant,” Alexa told Yahoo! Entertainment back in 2021 of her musical pursuits.
“I think when you love music that much, it’s not even something that you choose. You just know that you have to do it. Some people would say maybe it’s even a little masochistic, because especially when I was younger, I was put through the mill of the media and all of that. But when it calls to you, it calls to you, and you just have to just follow your own voice, do what you love, and hope that others love what you do.”
Della Rose Joel
Nine-year-old Della is Billy Joel’s first child with his wife Alexis Roderick. The spitting image of her dad, this adorable little Joel has, alongside her younger sister Remy, joined her dad on stage as well countless times. Being that Della is only 9 years old, she’s largely kept out of the limelight with the exception of the posts her family shares to social media, but based on what we’ve seen shared by her dad, she enjoys horseback riding and is a certified Swiftie, having met the icon this last October at The Eras tour.
What we do know for sure about Della is that her dad loves her endlessly! “Watching you grow and shine, keeps us all in awe,” he shared to social media on her 9th birthday in August. “We love you.”
Remy Anne Joel
Billy Joel’s youngest is 7-year-old Remy, and while she, like her sister, is kept out of the public eye for the most part, it looks like she’s also a major Swiftie, even dressing up as the superstar for Halloween! “You complete our family,” Joel wrote on Instagram for his little girl’s seventh birthday. “We can’t imagine life without you and yet it often feels like it was just yesterday that you came into the world! Forever, our little baby girl.”
