Cameron Diaz Opens Up About Family Life
Cameron Diaz, the beloved star of Charlie’s Angels and There’s Something About Mary, is finally making her much-anticipated return to the big screen after a decade-long break. Fans may not realize it, but Diaz’s decision to step away from Hollywood had everything to do with family, particularly her husband, Benji Madden, and their growing household.
In 2015, Cameron married Benji, the Good Charlotte musician, and together they have two children: daughter Raddix, now four, and their newborn son Cardinal, whom they welcomed earlier this year. After spending years focused on building a family and stepping out of the Hollywood spotlight, Cameron is gearing up for her comeback in the upcoming film Back in Action with Jamie Foxx.
During her time away from the screen, Diaz has been vocal about the importance of prioritizing her personal life. Speaking at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit, she shared how her ten-year break allowed her to build a strong foundation with Benji and their children. Reflecting on their time together during the pandemic, she said, “We were in the house for a long time, which was amazing,” adding that she used this time to support her family and her husband’s business ventures.
Benji, according to Cameron, was instrumental in her decision to return to acting. “My husband, he’s just the best. He was just like, ‘You’ve been supporting us and building the family,'” she explained, highlighting how Benji encouraged her to pursue her passion once again. She continued, “It felt right for me to reclaim my own life.”
For Diaz, it wasn’t just about getting back on set; it was about doing so on her terms. Her comeback film, Back in Action, is her third project with co-star Jamie Foxx. “I couldn’t say no to Jamie,” she said, recalling how the actor urged her to participate in the film. “He said, ‘Come with me.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, let’s do it.'”
The couple’s growing family has been at the heart of Cameron’s life. In March, they surprised fans by announcing the birth of their son, Cardinal, via Instagram. In their heartwarming post, they expressed their excitement and gratitude: “We are blessed and excited to announce the birth of our son, Cardinal Madden. He is awesome, and we are all so happy he is here!”
While they chose to keep details about their children private, Diaz and Madden clarified that their focus remains on family. “For the kids’ safety and privacy, we won’t be posting any pictures — but he’s really cute,” they wrote.
Diaz’s return to Hollywood signals a new chapter in her career, one shaped by her personal growth and the love and support of her family. As fans eagerly await her latest film, it’s clear that Cameron’s decision to step back into the spotlight is a well-thought-out one, made possible by the strong family foundation she built during her time away,
