Reality TV star and rapper Chanel West Coast recently shared her candid experiences with postpartum weight loss, offering a raw glimpse into her decision to undergo liposuction and her thoughts on trendy weight loss medications.
Speaking exclusively at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards in New York, the 36-year-old mother of Bowie Breeze, who turns 2 this November, revealed the challenges she faced in regaining her pre-pregnancy figure. Despite her history as a “skinny person,” West Coast found herself struggling with weight gain after giving birth.
When traditional methods failed, she turned to liposuction—a decision that came with unexpected difficulties. “It was much tougher than my friends led me to believe,” West Coast admitted. She emphasized the importance of transparency, noting that many women might not fully grasp the procedure’s intensity before considering it.
West Coast described a grueling recovery process, far from the “miracle” solution some might expect. “It’s a long, strenuous journey,” she explained, hoping her openness would provide a realistic perspective for others contemplating similar procedures.
The star also commented on the Ozempic trend sweeping through celebrity circles. Expressing hesitation about weight loss medications, West Coast said, “I’m wary of things like that. I’ve heard you might gain more weight after stopping Ozempic—that’s not what I aim for.”
Despite her physical insecurities, West Coast takes pride in showcasing her authentic postpartum experience on her MTV show, “West Coast Hustle.” She shared, “Fans got to see a deeper, more vulnerable side of me. I was often in tears, dealing with post-baby hormones and feeling self-conscious about my weight on camera. But I wanted to present my most genuine self to the audience.”
As West Coast continues to navigate her post-pregnancy journey, her story serves as a reminder of the complexities of body image and the importance of honest dialogue about weight loss methods in the public eye.
