Denise Richards talked about what it was like parenting her children with ex-husband Charlie Sheen. And she said the experience wasn’t co-parenting but more like adjacent individual parenting which made things quite challenging.
We’ve been learning a lot more about Denise recently with the launch of her new reality show, Denise Richards & Her Wild Things. And one of the things we’re learning about is Denise’s daughters with Charlie and the relationship they have now.
Denise Richards says Charlie Sheen and she had no “co-parenting” of their daughters
Denise and Charlie married in 2002 and finalized their divorce in 2006. They share two daughters Sami Sheen and Lola Sheen. On the latest episode of Whine Down with Jane Kramer, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum shared that she and Charlie parent differently.
“Truthfully, it wasn’t co-parenting,” Denise explained. “I parent my way. He parents his way, and there was no co-parenting. I have kids with him, and I’m not really — I’m not friendly with Charlie. But I wish we were friends,” she admitted.
“I wish we could take the time to really be there for each other and our girls,” she added. “But that’s just not the relationship we have. Maybe one day. But I mean, right now, there’s nothing. There’s no discord between he and I which is great.”
There has definitely been plenty of discord in the past with their divorce and the child support payments. But it looks like they’ve moved beyond that. Charlie even appeared on Denise’s new show, which goes to show they can have a friendly chat.
“I was always an advocate of wanting everything to be great and be friends and blend the family because he had two boys with his wife after me,” Denise continued. Denise even helped Charlie watch the boys when his ex-wife Brooke Mueller was going through a difficult time.
She obviously does wish the families could be closer. But, like she said, maybe one day. In the meantime, she’s proud of how she raised her girls. Co-parenting or no co-parenting.
