Johansson
In a recent interview with People magazine published on Friday, September 13, 2024, Colin Jost opened up about his wife Scarlett Johansson’s reaction to his unconventional $280,000 purchase of a decommissioned Staten Island ferry boat in 2022.
The Saturday Night Live veteran, now 42, candidly admitted that buying the ferry with fellow comedian Pete Davidson was “absolutely the dumbest and least thought-through purchase” he’s ever made. Jost humorously justified the decision, saying, “On just a basic square-footage level, if you found the right place for it to be, you were essentially buying a building on its side that’s 65,000 square feet. So around New York, that is a very good price per square foot.”
Despite the initial shock, Johansson, 39, has surprisingly supported her husband’s nautical adventure. Jost recounted her initial reaction: “She was just like, ‘Wait, so you own this boat now?’ Very fair question.” He added that Johansson now sees potential in the project, encouraging him to “take it seriously and figure out the best version of it” since it has become a defining aspect of his public image.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2020 after meeting on the set of SNL, have taken the ferry purchase in stride. Jost even joked about it during a May 2024 episode of SNL’s “Weekend Update” segment, linking the absence of a Marvel movie kicking off the summer season to people relying on such films “to pay for the ferries they bought” – a playful nod to Johansson’s role as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While the comedic duo of Jost and Davidson initially planned to transform the ferry into an entertainment venue, progress has been slow. However, the vessel recently hosted a Tommy Hilfiger show during New York Fashion Week, hinting at its potential for future events.
As Jost continues navigating the waters of this unique investment, it’s clear that Johansson’s support and self-deprecating humor keep this comedy couple afloat in their unconventional maritime venture. US Magazine
