Coronation Street star rules out one story twist for Abi

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Sally Carman has ruled out one potential twist for her character Abi Webster.

Abi has been struggling since Mason Radcliffe’s shocking death last week, after the teen was stabbed by his brothers with a zombie knife. Abi tried desperately to save Mason, but his death reopened the trauma from her son Seb’s tragic murder.

Meanwhile, there’s more heartache in store for Abi when her husband Kevin Webster is diagnosed with testicular cancer. As Abi continues to spiral, she will be faced with temptation. But will she go through with it?

In an interview with Inside Soap, Carman revealed her thoughts on the upcoming storyline and explained why Abi would be tempted away from Kevin.

“As an actor, brilliant! I thought ‘Would Abi do that?’ and actually, yes, she is a bit of a wildcard,” said Carman. “The pull and temptation is just too much for her, and it reminds Abi of being young.

“There’s been a lot of sadness and loss in her life, and this may serve as a distraction from that. It’s too irresistible for her,” she added.

Though the actor didn’t reveal many details, she did rule out Tim Metcalfe, played by her real-life husband Joe Duttine, as the mystery man.

“I can tell you, [Abi’s new love interest] is definitely not him!” she laughed. “If they ever suggested it, I’d be saying ‘Good grief, no. That would be a nightmare!’

“[Duttine] has such a twinkle in his eye that I’d be laughing all the time, and it wouldn’t work. The few scenes that we’ve had together have been so bad; I’m just so hopeless. There’s no chemistry between us, bizarrely!”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
