Coronation Street’s Alya Nazir to face a backlash in Mason storyline

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street‘s Alya Nazir will face backlash from Sean Tully in upcoming scenes for representing Matty Radcliffe.

Matty was recently arrested over the tragic death of his brother Mason, who was fatally stabbed during an altercation with Matty and Logan after he helped the police gather evidence against them.

Matty also caused chaos in the visiting room at his prison by pulling out a knife, threatening one of the prison guards.

In scenes set to air on the ITV soap next week, Alya meets up with her boss Dan at the Speed Daal to talk through Matty’s case.

The budding lawyer – who previously represented Matty when he was accused of attacking Carla Connor – struggles to hide her unease when Dan suggests using Matty’s disadvantaged background as his defence.

Sean, whose son Dylan has also been arrested for carrying the knife that was used to stab Mason, tells Alya that she should be ashamed of herself for representing Matty.

Embarrassed, Alya later confides in Adam and admits she’s thinking of quitting her job because she doesn’t like putting her career before her morals. Will Alya turn her back on her job?

Following his exit as Mason, Luca Toolan said that he felt a “mixture of emotions” when he first learned about his character’s dark storyline.

“Of course, when I first heard, there was a mixture of emotions because I was sad that Mason was going to die and that means I would be leaving – but equally I was really excited and honoured to be part of this storyline because it’s an incredibly important issue that needs to be tackled,” he shared.

“I feel so privileged to have had this opportunity to start my professional career at Coronation Street and what a great time I’ve had.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
