The Daily Show Roasts Trump’s Celebrity Cabinet
Another day, another batch of eyebrow-raising celebrity picks from Donald Trump.
This time, the former president has reportedly tapped TV’s Dr. Oz to lead Medicare and Medicaid—a bizarre choice that The Daily Show host Desi Lydic quips, “I’m honestly impressed he didn’t pick Dr. Pepper.” But wait, there’s more: Linda McMahon, wife of WWE mogul Vince McMahon, is apparently set to become the next Secretary of Education. Who better to oversee America’s schools than someone from the world of scripted body slams?
Naturally, The Daily Show had to respond, and they did so in the best way possible: a brutally hilarious parody training video for Trump’s newest recruits.
The Perfect Onboarding Video for Trump’s Celebrity Cabinet
In the satirical segment, Daily Show correspondent Grace Kuhlenschmidt plays the role of an instructor leading an orientation session for Trump’s latest appointees—who, of course, have zero relevant experience in government.
“If you’re watching this, you’re a random television personality Donald Trump just appointed to run a huge federal agency,” she deadpans.
With the faux sincerity of a corporate training video, Kuhlenschmidt walks these unlikely leaders through the basics of their new, incredibly serious jobs. But the script quickly goes off the rails in the best way possible.
“Right now, you may wonder: ‘How did I get this job?’ ‘So I’m just in charge now?’ And, ‘Wait, what is my job again?’” she continues. “Well, I can assure you, the answer to all these questions is: I don’t f**ing know.”*
The clip skewers Trump’s long-standing habit of appointing people to key government positions based on loyalty, celebrity status, or reality TV appeal rather than, say, actual qualifications.
Familiar Pattern in Trump’s Administration
While the segment is pure comedy gold, the real-life implications are less amusing. Trump has a well-documented history of tapping TV personalities, business moguls, and WWE-affiliated figures for powerful government roles. Dr. Oz, for example, has a background in cardiothoracic surgery but has been widely criticized for promoting dubious medical treatments. Meanwhile, Linda McMahon previously served as head of the Small Business Administration in Trump’s first term—a position she stepped down from to work on his re-election campaign.
With Trump ramping up his 2024 election efforts, it seems the trend of appointing high-profile figures with little relevant experience is far from over.
So, if this parody training video is any indication, The Daily Show might need to start producing a full-on reality show called “Trump’s Cabinet: The Unqualified Edition.”
And honestly? It would probably be a hit.
