Dave Hughes explains why he kicked out audience members during Adelaide Fringe Festival show

Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes has addressed a viral video showing him kicking out some audience members from his stand-up show on Friday at the Adelaide Fringe Festival.

The Aussie comedian and radio star, 54, spoke about the headline-making incident during an appearance on NOVA’s 106.9’s Ash, Luttsy & Nikki Osborne show today.

The media personality explained that he doesn’t like booting out audience members, but the group of women had “five warnings” before being shown the door.

He added that one woman “was way too drunk” and “kept talking,” despite his pleas for her to be silent.

In a video from Friday’s show, shared on social media, Hughesy can be seen telling the group they were too “distracting” and said it was “the height of rudeness”.

“Look … I’m not one for kicking audience members out in general,” he said during his radio appearance.

“But when you give people five warnings that they need to be quiet, and they don’t listen to any of those warnings, every now and again you’ve just got to push the button, you’ve got to get them out.”

“They were in the second row, and I think they were just discussing stuff that I was talking about, but it was like they were on Gogglebox,” Hughes claimed.

“It was way too loud. This woman was way too drunk.

“I had tried to negotiate with her and she would not listen to me, she kept talking and I said, ‘If you keep talking, you’re going to have to go’ and she found out she had to go.

“It was just too much.”

The comedian added that he thought the rest of the crowd were on his side as afterwards, they kept cheering for him and “lifted to another level”.

“I was getting really annoyed. [The crowd reaction] made me know I made the right decision,” he said.

It comes after Hughesy revealed In February last year that he had shoulder surgery following a surfing accident over the New Year’s period.

He said at the time that he had dislocated his shoulder, but described the pain as the “worst pain of my life”.

“Will be in a sling for a while, not sure when my next right-handed high five will be,” one post was captioned.
