National Football League (NFL) wide receiver DeKaylin “DK” Metcalf and former Fifth Harmony member Normani Kordei Hamilton are engaged!
During a press conference on Thursday, March 13, Metcalf announced that not only will he be transferred from the Seattle Seahawks to the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2025 to 2026 season, but he also shared that he and Normani were engaged.
“Hold that rock up, baby,” the NFL star said before sharing how it happened. “My family and her family were in Houston. It was my sister’s spring break, and I just thought about getting the whole family together for a big kumbaya and joining our families with the ring.
“I started sending her flowers with a story and then the last letter on the flower was ‘Will you marry me?’ And she said yes.”
Following the press conference, Metcalf posted a video on the Steelers X account (formerly known as Twitter) thanking his “beautiful fiancé” for being with him when he announced his switch from Seattle, Washington, to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
To celebrate this joyous news, First for Women dove deep into Metcalf and Normani’s relationship and discovered everything you need to know about their love story. Read on for more.
The start of DK Metcalf and Normani’s love story
Metcalf, 27, and Normani, 28, met in 2020 after being introduced by Ciara and Russell Wilson, who plays for Metcalf’s new team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“If you could trust a couple [to set you up], that would be the couple,” Normani joked in June 2024.
They were first spotted together in June 2022 on a dinner date in Santa Monica, California. Their relationship became official on Instagram in July 2023 after Normani posted a picture of them on her story at Seattle Seahawks quarterback Tyler Lockett’s wedding.
“I’m happy. I am very happy. Definitely an answered prayer,” Normani told Rolling Stone in June 2024. “I’ve experienced a lot with relationships. I’m a real lover girl. I wear my heart on my sleeve, and finding space where that’s reciprocated feels good. I like to see myself happy. I really do.”
In that same interview, the singer shared that Metcalf “inspired a few [songs]” on her 2024 album, Dopamine.
A closer look at the couple’s engagement
According to Metcalf, this engagement has been in the works for a while, with him stating, “I tried to [propose] last year, but she’s a singer, so her work kind of conflicted with the schedule.”
Now, though the couple is not only engaged, Metcalf is also getting to embark on a brand new career opportunity with a team that hasn’t had the best record in the past due to a high turnover rate and many low-scoring games.
“I’m just going to do the best of my abilities to help whoever they have out there throwing the football. They’re going to make the correct decisions to bring a quarterback in here,” the wide receiver said. “This is a historic organization. They’ve done the recruiting before I even got here. Whoever wants to come here and try to win as many games as we can, they can join us. If not, good luck on the other side.”
While with the Steelers, Metcalf will be reunited with his longtime friend Russell, who he said was one of the reasons he made the switch.
Said Metcalf: “Last year, I think like halfway through the season, we just had a conversation about how it was living here. He just told me that I would love it here.”
He also shared that Russell had congratulated him on his engagement to Normani.
As of publication, it is unclear if Normani will be moving to Pittsburgh with Metcalf, who currently has a $150 million five-year contract with the city’s NFL team, and will wear the number 14 jersey.
Either way, though, the football star is happy with where his life is right now, saying, “I don’t know many words other than great. I found a new home here. I found a new fiancée. Everything is just falling in line just the way God planned.”
Congratulations, Metcalf and Normani!
