Dolly Parton announced her new musical at the Country Music Awards Fest

Parton announced her new musical at CMA Fest in Nashville while appearing as a speaker on the opening day. The artist shared that fans could expect “all your favorites,” but that there will also be newly written songs mixed in with the classics. The title of the musical comes from Parton’s first album from 1967 of the same name.

The “9 to 5” singer also shared the news on X, previously known as Twitter, stating, “I’ve been writing my life story as a Broadway musical for several years and I’m proud to announce we are finally developing ‘Hello, I’m Dolly – An Original Musical’ for the Broadway stage.”

Parton has been a country music legend for decades, releasing hit after hit like “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You.” However, Hello, I’m Dolly will be the first musical produced about the singer’s life and career. Parton explained that the score, which she is putting together herself, will toy with emotions. “You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll clap, you’ll stomp, it truly is a Grand Ol’ Opera. Pun and fun intended. Don’t miss it.”

The show will be produced by Parton, as well as ATG Productions, Adam Speers and CTK Enterprises Danny Nozell. This will not be the first time that Parton and Speers have worked together creatively, however.

“I first had the pleasure of working with Dolly Parton in 2019,” Speers started, “when she trusted us to develop a new version of her musical 9 to 5 for London’s West End. I had always heard she wanted to do a musical based on her life, so when she asked if I would be interested in producing it, I was bowled over.”

Dolly Parton teased her musical’s high anticipation

Since the musical was just announced recently, it is not set to hit the stage until 2026. But Parton will surely make the wait worth it, as her earlier work has never disappointed before. She gave a teaser for what fans can expect to see in the musical. “The whole first act is my early days before I went to Nashville. The second act is about my days in Nashville and beyond.”

Parton will also co-write the book for the production, along with Maria S. Schlatter, who also worked with the star on Christmas on the Square (2020).
