Ed Sheeran slams ‘damaging’ reports he attended JK Rowling’s New Year’s Eve party

Ed Sheeran has slammed rumours tying him to author J.K. Rowling

The singer took to Instagram Stories to call out an article that made a false claim he attended a New Year’s Eve Party at the Harry Potter author’s Scotland home.

Sheeran, 33, posted a screenshot of a tweet made for an article in September 2024 which read: “How Ed Sheeran brought joy to wounded [Israel Defence Force] soldiers – opinion.”

Sheeran was quick to shut down the swirling speculation before urging his followers to do their research before posting online to reduce the spread of misinformation.

The author of the original tweet responded on X, claiming that they previously asked Sheeran about his attendance.

“Hi @edsheeran – this is great to hear 👍. I used the word ‘reportedly’ about JK Rowling’s NYE party, because it was widely reported by UK and international media at the time.”

“I also reached out directly to you in the first wk of Jan via Twitter to ask if the story was correct – but no reply.

“Delighted to hear you didn’t go! ✌️❤️🏳️‍⚧️.”

In a follow up post, they also shared: “From the source – Ed Sheeran DID NOT attend JK Rowling’s New Year’s Eve party @edsheeran.”

Original reports that Sheeran had attended Rowling’s New Year’s Eve party have since been removed amid his response.
