James Bond star Emilio Echevarría has died at the age of 80, with fans and fellow A-listers paying tribute to the actor.
Echevarría, who was best known for his role in Die Another Day, passed away in Mexico on Sunday.
The Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences issued a statement on Monday confirming his death. Additional details were not disclosed.

“The AMACC regrets the sensitive death of actor Emilio Echevarría, who forged an enormous career in film and theatre,” it began per The Mirror.
“He received three Ariel nominations for his participation as a side actor.” The cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
Echevarría was born in Mexico City on July 3rd, 1944. The star began his journey to Hollywood in 1978, becoming a Constitution of Art and Society member.

Throughout his illustrious career, he starred in the 2000s Amores Perros and the romantic comedy Y tu mamá también alongside co-star Gael García Bernal.
Echevarría also portrayed president Antonio López de Santa Anna in the 2004 production of The Alamo.
In a career-defining role, in 2002, Echevarría featured in Die Another Day as Raoul alongside James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan, Dame Judi Dench, Halle Berry, Toby Stephens and Rosamund Pike.

Echevarría received three Ariel Awards nominations throughout his time on screen, the first in 1990 for Best Actor in a Minor Role for Morir en el Golfo, followed by a 2016 nomination for Best Supporting Actor for A Monster With A Thousand Heads.
In 2018, he earned another nod for Best Supporting Actor in The Chosen Ones.

Tributes pour in for the actor, with screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga paying tribute to the actor, saying: “Sad news for those of us who loved and admired him. Emilio Echevarría has died.
“A tremendous actor and an even better human being. A dear friend. I had the privilege of collaborating with him on several productions. A great man.”
