Famous Ex-Couples

Breakups can be complicated, especially when shared pets are involved. For many, pets are like family members, so deciding who keeps them is delicate. Several celebrity couples have shared custody of their pets, even after their romantic relationships ended. One such couple is Kaitlyn Bristowe and Jason Tartick from Bachelor Nation.

Kaitlyn Bristowe and Jason Tartick

Kaitlyn Bristowe and Jason Tartick were once a fan-favourite couple from the popular TV show The Bachelor. During their relationship, they adopted two adorable golden retrievers, Ramen and Pinot, and quickly became a picture-perfect family. However, in August 2023, the couple announced their split. Despite the end of their engagement, they agreed to continue co-parenting their beloved dogs.

A joint Instagram statement emphasized their commitment: “Our dogs will continue to be cared for together as brothers. While their humans are no longer romantically involved, we will love and care for them together.” This move showed a mutual understanding of the importance of stability in their pets’ lives.

The Challenges of Pet Custody

While Bristowe and Tartick initially maintained shared custody of Ramen and Pinot, it didn’t come without challenges. In a September 2024 episode of her podcast, Off the Vine, Bristowe opened up about their dogs’ difficulties due to the back-and-forth between homes. She noticed they became anxious and uncomfortable during these transitions, which led her to rethink the arrangement.

“What I realized in sharing custody with the dogs is that they get terrified, uncomfortable, and very anxious, not knowing where they’re going and when they’re coming back,” Bristowe shared. Understanding that the dogs’ well-being should come first, she decided to stop splitting custody.

However, Bristowe clarified that this decision wasn’t about denying Tartick access to the pets. She stated that Tartick could still see the dogs whenever he wished, emphasizing her desire to do what was best for their furry companions. “I’m doing what’s best for the dogs,” she explained, noting that Tartick was always welcome to visit or take the dogs for walks.

Sharing pet custody after a breakup is becoming more common as many view their pets as family members rather than mere possessions. For celebrity couples like Bristowe and Tartick, the focus remains on ensuring their pets’ happiness and well-being, showing that breakups don’t have to mean a complete split for every aspect of life.
