Grammys producer speaks on the event’s dress code and whether or not Bianca Censori’s nude dress was allowed

Australian model Bianca Censori made headlines earlier this week when she attended the Grammys alongside her husband Kanye West wearing a nearly nude dress.

The controversial moment in which she stripped off her long black jacket to reveal a mesh mini dress with nothing underneath sparked conversations about the dress code at the event, with some even questioning if she had broken the law.

But according to Grammys executive producer Raj Kaporor, Censori seemed to just be exercising her creative freedom.

Kapoor told People that the dress code is “artistic black-tie” however when working in the music industry, he says “that’s up for interpretation”.

“Obviously there is a dress code for anybody actually performing on the show that we have to adhere to standards and practices,” Kapoor added.

“But as far as people attending and nominees attending, that would be something the [Recording] Academy would have to answer.”

As for legal action, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed with the Los Angeles Police Department that no investigation concerning the incident has been opened.

Sources close to the couple told The Hollywood Reporter that the red carpet stunt was inspired by West’s 2024 album Vultures 1, of which the album cover features the back of a topless woman in a g-string and boots.

Despite Kapoor’s statement, a “Standard And Practice Wardrobe Advisory” guide for the 2013 Grammys was shared with Deadline, and it seems that Censori was in direct violation of a few guidelines.

“Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered,” read the advisory.

“Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic.

“Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could possibly expose female breast nipples.”

However since the advisory – which predominantly seemed to police the clothing choices of women – was created and released over a decade ago, there is the possibility that it has been changed and updated to better reflect the views of today.

While some saw Censori’s outfit choice as empowering, the majority of feedback online was negative, with the Aussie model facing tons of backlash for her choice.

One aspect is undeniable though – Censori had everyone talking.

In a now deleted Instagram post, West shared screenshots of Google analytics which showed just how much interest Censori’s outfit had generated.

“My beautiful brave history altering wife generated more google searches than anything else in the past 48 hours in the US including the Grammys,” he wrote.

But it seems that West may have been the one to plan the whole stunt, now seemingly using it as a marketing ploy for his brand Yeezy.

At the Grammy afterparty, fans noticed that Censori had an outfit change, leaving the nude dress behind and instead opting for a semi-sheer black bodysuit.

Now, West has posted a video of Censori modelling what appears to be the same bodysuit to his Instagram, captioning the clip, “THE MOST GOOGLED HUMAN ON EARTH WEARING YEEZY WOMENS.”
