Billionaire businessman Elon Musk wears many hats, but it’s how his evolving role in politics is interacting with fatherhood that has left ex-partner Grimes particularly unimpressed.
The 53-year-old Tesla, Inc. and SpaceX CEO – who was the largest donor in the 2024 US presidential election and was appointed leader of newly-restructured Department of Government Efficiency by Donald Trump – brought his four-year-old son X Æ A-Xii to the White House’s Oval Office this week to witness Trump sign an executive order.
Grimes, who shares X Æ A-Xii and two other children with Musk, has since revealed she wasn’t aware of X Æ A-Xii’s public appearance until it emerged he’d made one on social media – and she’s not happy about it.

“He should not be in public like this,” the 36-year-old singer, who was in an on-off relationship with Musk for four years until 2022, wrote on Musk-owned X (formerly Twitter).
“I did not see this, thank u for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh.”
She was responding to another X user, who had written under one of her posts: ”Lil [X Æ A-Xii] was very polite today! You raised him well. He was so cute when he told [Trump] ‘please forgive me, I need to pee.'”

X Æ A-Xii was seen pulling faces and grabbing at Musk in front of the cameras while Musk took questions from reporters and defended the actions of his department, which had just been granted more power thanks to Trump’s executive order.
Grimes – who also shares Exa Dark Sideræl and Techno Mechanicus with Musk – has spoken out about Musk’s actions on the social media platform he owns before.
In January, she shared a lengthy statement to X defending herself and denouncing Nazism after Musk made a one-armed gesture that heavily resembled a Nazi salute.

”It’s absurd that someone can be this cancelled for something their ex did before they even heard it happened,” she wrote.
“I am not him. I will not make a statement every time he does something. I can only send love back into a world that is hurting.
“To be clear i could go talk s–t and be on a bunch of magazine covers and be a feminist hero and get clout – but it would serve no purpose. I choose my children’s wellbeing.”
Musk, who is a devout pronatalist, shares 12 children in total with three women. Grimes is the mother of three of his children.
