Jackie O Henderson has opened up about her life on the dating scene.
On the latest episode of her podcast We Are Besties with longtime best friend Gemma O’Neill, Henderson, 50, shared her struggles finding a partner.
Explaining she’d “rather be alone” than settle, Henderson told O’Neill that for her to see someone, the relationship would need to be “really deep and amazing and really connected.”

“I’ve been out on dates with great people who I would have a good relationship with,” she said.
“But it wasn’t the amazing that I know exists, and I know it will happen, I do. The not knowing [when] is the hardest part.”

At just 19 years old, Henderson married radio co-host Phil O’Neill, who was 10 years her senior, before the couple called it quits five years later.
In 2003, she married UK photographer Lee Henderson, with whom she shares daughter Kitty.
The couple were married for 15 years before going their separate ways in 2018.

“I did meet someone just before Christmas, actually … I don’t want to go into too much detail but I’ll just say that finally I actually did meet someone,” she said.
“He was so perfect for me, you know, and we were great.”
At the time, Henderson would say to O’Neill, “Oh my god, Gemma, can you believe this has happened? It’s actually happening”.
“He was perfect in every way for me and great age and he just made me laugh so much,” Henderson remembered.
“He was just so similar to me as people… same values and just everything was great.”

O’Neill laughed, saying the duo were like high school girls during the relationship, but things ultimately didn’t work out.
“After that, oh man I was just like, ‘Well, that only comes around once in a blue moon, that kind of person’, and I just got disheartened,” Henderson shared, choking back tears.
“I don’t want to cry about it, this is ridiculous,” she added before O’Neill cut her off to reassure her friend that she wasn’t being ridiculous.
“You just think of that person, and then you go, ‘Oh well, am I ever going to meet someone like that again? And how long is it going to take now?'”

Admitting there are good days and bad days, Henderson said she wasn’t “overly triggered” by the end of the relationship, adding that she’s “done enough work on myself to just accept the situation for what it was”.
“Whilst I’m still fine and happy and most, like every day, is great, there are moments… I just can’t help but be sad,” she said.
“Not every day is going to be great.”
