Between his sold-out comedy tour, hilarious podcast, friendships with pop stars, a Super Bowl commercial, and now a role in a beloved Max series, Jake Shane has lots to be thera-thrilled about these days. And the pussies (his stans) couldn’t be more proud. As a member of the @octopusslover8 fandom myself, I was beyond excited to catch up with the TikTok legend about his current projects.
When we chatted last week, Jake teased a “really exciting acting thing” coming soon. Days later, Variety reported that he’s been cast in season 4 of Hacks. “It’s awesome and I’m really, really excited to share it with people,” Jake told me. He added, “My role isn’t anything crazy, but the project itself is amazing. I’m really, really excited about it and super honored to be a part of it.” Yeah, I’m gonna need the Jake Hacks episodes immediately.

So, what are you therapissed about today?
I’m really trying to take myself to the gym and it’s really been hard. I’m really trying but I just want to sleep.
That’s so fair. How’s the tour? Any especially memorable fan interactions so far?
It’s great! I really like being able to visualize the audience that cultivated online in person. It’s a really unique experience and it makes it feel more real. I met this girl named Tori the other night, and she really just touched me emotionally. I thought she was really, really sweet. I think it was in Georgia. I just really haven’t stopped thinking about her. I thought she was awesome.
Do you have any pre-show rituals?
I saw Tucker was in Dallas the same night I was in Dallas, so I called him, and I was like, “What time are you on?” He’s like, “I go on at 9:00.” I was like, “Hey, I go on at 8:00.” So I was like, “I can come to your show after I finish mine, you’re only seven minutes away.” Initially, he was going to do a “One Less Lonely Girl” moment with me during the slut interlude. And then we were like, “Why not just do Sally?” So, I came out and sang Sally with him.
So iconic. Obviously, he was a guest on Therapuss. What’s the wildest or funniest experience you’ve ever had with a guest so far that you can share?
Honestly, the whole Tucker episode the first time around… It was just so unexpected. I don’t think I knew his type of humor and I was so caught off guard by it. Also maybe when FKA Twigs came on and asked me to be in her music video, which just came out. That was pretty crazy. It always leads me to very unexpected places.
Yeah, oh my God, both of the Role Model episodes are the funniest interviews I’ve ever seen.
Who have you fangirled over the most when you met them in person so far?
Charli XCX. I was super starstruck when I met her.
I can’t even imagine.
Yes. I was freaking, freaking out.
Yeah, it’s hard to beat that one. If you could plan a dream day with a group of pop stars, what would the agenda be, and who would be there?
It would be me, Taylor Swift, and her publicist, Tree Paine. And our entire day would revolve around me working for Taylor Swift and just seeing the ins and outs of Taylor Swift’s life.
That’s such a good answer. I would love to see what Tree Paine does up close. What’s your current pop culture hyperfixation?
Ariana Grande, Eternal Sunshine Deluxe. I need it now. I’ve been waiting for months for this. I need the intro extended. I need it all.
Same. So, last summer was BRAT summer. What’s this summer?
Mayhem summer. It’s a Mayhem summer and a Tate summer.
