I’m gonna keep it a buck: Southern Charm isn’t always at the top of my queue between being bored by the same ol’ debauchery and the problematic AF nature of, well, The South (lolz). But there are several parts of season 10 I haven’t been able to look away from, if only because they’re too cringe not to watch. Other than Craig and Paige’s breakup by a million thinly veiled jokes, the confusing romance between Venita and JT has me asking hella questions. Like, first and foremost: Venita, beloved, WHY?? The man Bravo producers put horror music behind every time he comes on screen??? This is a situationship that needs serious unpacking, and I’m going to find more than Craig’s Sewing Douth South pillows in these metaphorical boxes, I fear. Here’s a timeline of JT and Venita’s Southern Charm drama for everyone who also can’t stop saying, “I’m sorry WHAT?” at every new headline.
Are JT and Venita still together?
Even though JT and Venita Aspen finally became a couple after a season-long will they won’t they on Southern Charm, the end credits “where are they now” updates revealed that they had already broken up off-camera, unfollowed each other, and stopped speaking entirely (!!!), all before the season even aired.
When did JT and Venita start dating?
JT and Venita started out season 10 as “close” besties with “chemistry” that you “just can’t teach”, but by the season credits, producers announced they’d begun a romantic relationship in the fall of 2024, around two months after the season wrapped. Unfortunately, said relationship was apparently already over by the time they got to editing the footage. I beg your pardon???
What happened between JT and Venita?
JT and Venita’s ride-or-die friendship (the one where Venita played JT’s translator/defender/goo-goo-eyed advisor) was rocky since JT dropped the girlfriend bomb on Venita during their infamous branzino dinner. JT or “yummy Jarrett” as Venita called him (…) and “mommy” as JT called her (…….) had been flirting hot and heavy all season since Venita had officially cut off her Broadway ex, Manny. But after JT stood Venita up at Madison’s season finale party, even Venita had enough, so they did not speak over the summer.
But by fall 2024, the ex-friends reconnected as lovers after much pining. During their relationship, however, things fell apart, and JT went back to Ali.
Are JT and Venita still friends?
The trailer for the season 10 reunion (airing March 27) hints at a hard no. JT tells Venita she “went too hard,” and Venita counters that JT should’ve stopped his girlfriend, Ali, from blaming Venita in her DMs. When Venita and JT can’t agree on whether or not JT gave Venita a chance to talk things out before cutting her off, Venita storms off the set to go get the receipts from her phone. Ohhh, I’m sat.
Did JT cheat on his girlfriend with Venita?
While JT and Venita didn’t technically cheat, a lot of people find their timeline suss, including Venita. Venita says JT didn’t tell her he was in a relationship during spring 2024 filming before she caught feelings or later on in September 2024, when their official short-lived romance began. Venita says that during their September to November dating period, JT was also dating his soon-to-be girlfriend, Ali. She feels that JT “did her dirty” because he never broke the news that he “decided to go with [Ali] versus” Venita. She feels JT’s “messy” behavior made her look like the bad guy when JT could’ve made things “so simple” by communicating.
JT, on the other hand, alleges that Venita was v aware of his relationship with Ali. One of JT’s many social media receipts to prove this was a carousel of pictures showing Venita, JT, his mom Bunny, and Ali at dinner. He even claimed Venita took a cute fam photo of JT, Bunny, and Ali, so she must have known things with Ali were serious that spring. TBF, Bunny was also referring to Venita as JT’s fiancée on camera, soooo, weird even JT’s mama was sending mixed messages, but whatevs!
Venita’s “Bad Edit” On Southern Charm
Venita also saved some smoke for the Southern Charm producers, who she claims edited their branzino dinner (the one where the “sweet and spicy” friends professed the mutual conflicted feelings like Romeo and Juliet) into an episode prior to the Bahamas trip to intentionally paint Venita as a “homewrecker.”
On vacay, JT and Venita told producers about a private after-hours interaction where Venita “threw herself” at JT. But Venita clarified to fans the straddling happened before JT told her about Ali, since the Branzino dinner actually went down after the trip.
What did JT call Venita?
On episode 14 of SC, Patricia’s rookie casting plant, Ryan, alleged that JT referred to his good friend Venita as “some Black girl that’s been coming on to him” to their mutual barber. Ryan said JT was allegedly ranting to their barber because JT was worried about his new girlfriend Ali getting “pissed off.” The rumor spread throughout the group and left Venita “distraught” (rightfully so!).
When Leva confronted JT, he outright denied the implication, saying, “That sounds racist. I’m not a racist.” JT and Leva got his barber on the phone, and for once, he was pretty much vindicated. The barber recalled that JT had explained he had a love interest on the show with “a cute black girl” on the cast, obviously a v different tone.
Did JT pay Venita back for the blazer?
In her campaign to clear her name, Venita used a designer blazer as evidence that she thought JT was single. During the Southern Charm After Show, Venita told Leva, “Imagine having a girlfriend and then having your best friend spend $5,000 on you,” referring to a shopping scene from the season premiere where JT purchased a blazer for the polo match, except apparently Venita had secretly footed the bill. When Leva asked Venita if JT ever Venmoed her, Venita played coy. This ofc triggered JT to share a Paypal transaction, allegedly for the jacket, to Instagram ASAP. JT also clarified the jacket was $4,054.48, NOT 5K. Okay, petty king!
