Kyle Richards has recently opened up about the end of her marriage to Mauricio Umansky, placing the blame squarely on his lack of effort to repair their relationship. In a candid interview, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star revealed her feelings of disappointment and frustration, noting that despite the couple’s best efforts, Mauricio didn’t make the necessary changes to salvage their union.

In a recent interview on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills After Show, she shared candid insights into what led to the dissolution of their 25-year marriage and explained why she places much of the blame on her estranged husband’s lack of effort.
During the Feb. 25 episode, Kyle explained the crux of the problem: Mauricio’s failure to put in the necessary work to save their relationship. “I mean, clearly if you want something to work, you have to do the work. And I didn’t see that being done,” Kyle admitted. “I think Mau thought, ‘I’m always nice to you.’ And that’s that’s not doing the work; That’s being nice to me.”
Kyle Richards continued, expressing doubts about whether Mauricio truly had the desire or ability to fix things. “But doing the work? I just don’t know if he has it in him, or wants to,” she added.
Further clarifying a comment she made in a previous therapy session, Kyle explained that when she said Mauricio “didn’t fight for the marriage,” she was referring to his lack of effort to address their issues. “Not doing the work is what I mean when I say not fighting for the marriage,” Kyle said on the After Show. She elaborated that after their separation, they agreed to attend therapy separately and together. “But he just decided not to do that,” she revealed.
In another moment during the After Show, Kyle shared that, since filming for Season 14 wrapped, she and Mauricio have had conversations about the future of their separation. “I have said to him, ‘We have to have the harder conversations now. A lot of decisions are going to have to be made,’” Kyle stated, indicating that she’s ready to face the tough decisions ahead.

Kyle also addressed how difficult it has been for both of them to make their separation official, explaining the emotional complexity behind the situation. “If we hated each other it would be so easy — not really, but emotionally easy,” she said. “I think that it was just hard, and neither one of us wanted to be the one to say, ‘OK. We’re not going to be together and let’s start figuring everything out.’”
Despite this reluctance to make the split official, Kyle acknowledged that avoiding the conversation has only prolonged the inevitable. “We’ve made it easy for each other to not have to do that by just avoiding everything, actually,” she admitted.
Kyle also opened up about the pressure she faced from her RHOBH castmates, who were eager for answers about her marriage. “I think a lot of the women were pressing for answers from me before I even had the answers myself. I think they didn’t believe me, but I genuinely did not,” she said. “They were watching my marriage unfold in real time. So, I was like, ‘Guys, I don’t have the answers. Not everyone has them that fast.’”
