LA fires update: 2025 Critics Choice Awards postponed amid Pacific Palisades wildfires

The Critics Choice Awards have been officially postponed. 

A star-studded event, the awards show was scheduled to take place on Sunday, January 13, but will be rescheduled amid devastating fires across Los Angeles.

The Critics Choice Association COO Joey Berlin told Variety “the show has been officially postponed,” with further details to come.

The event was set to be held at Barker Hangar, which is just kilometres away from the Pacific Palisades. This area has been heavily affected by the wildfires. 

California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a “state of emergency” in the area on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT) as wind gusts fanned the flames, intensifying the fire.

As the fires continue to rage, the Critics Choice Awards joins several A-list events that have been impacted or rescheduled.

The SAG Awards nomination live announcement was also cut, with the list revealed in a press release instead.  

“In an abundance of caution for the safety of our presenters, guests, and staff, the live in-person 31st Annual SAG Awards nominations announcement has been cancelled due to the wildfires and adverse wind conditions in Los Angeles,” a statement from organisers said.

The annual AFI Awards luncheon has also been postponed.

At the same time, the BAFTA Tea Party, which was meant to be held at the Four Seasons Hotel at Beverly Hills, will no longer take place.

The Ryan Gosling-produced movie Wolf Man had its Tuesday night (Wednesday AEDT) premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood cancelled.

Similarly, Tuesday night’s premiere of Unstoppable, the biopic about one-legged wrestler Anthony Robles, starring Jennifer Lopez, was called off.

Netflix pulled the pin on a Q&A screening of Oscar contender Emilia Peréz at Grandmaster Recorders “out of an abundance of caution due to the severe winds and fires currently affecting the LA area.”

Wednesday’s planned premiere of the Robbie Williams biopic Better Man was also canned on Tuesday evening “due to the dangerous conditions affecting Los Angeles.”
