Angelina Jolie might have missed out on a Golden Globe, but could be on course for another Oscar nomination for her leading role in Pablo Larraín’s new movie Maria.
You might have seen Netflix advertising that Maria is now available to watch, and could be aiming to settle down to watch it this weekend. But if you’re in the UK and Ireland, you’ll be disappointed.
Netflix only acquired the US rights to the movie and after a limited theatrical run, the streaming service released Maria on December 11. So if you’re in the US, you can watch the biopic right now.
If you’re in the UK and Ireland, though, you can now watch Maria as it is now out in cinemas following its release on January 10.

StudioCanal is also handling the movie’s release in Germany, where it will be released on February 6, 2025, and in Poland at a to-be-confirmed date.
It’s only in the US where you can expect to watch Maria on Netflix right now, so if you’re in any country other than the US, don’t go adding the movie to your watchlist anytime soon, as you won’t find it.
We do know, however, that Maria will eventually arrive on Netflix in the UK and Ireland due to an existing deal between StudioCanal and Netflix.

StudioCanal releases, such as Back to Black and Wicked Little Letters, typically arrive on the streaming service around five months after their cinema release.
That points to Maria landing on Netflix in the UK and Ireland in early June 2025.
There are exceptions to this rule, such as 2024 titles The Beekeeper and Lee, but that was because they were Sky Original movies that StudioCanal handled the theatrical distribution for.
Maria is out now in UK and Irish cinemas, as well as being available to watch on Netflix in the US.
