On the latest episode of Love Island Aftersun, host Maya Jama got the inside scoop from Nicole Samuel’s mom Kelly about her daughter’s blossoming romance in the Love Island villa. And it seems Kelly isn’t too keen on Nicole coupling up with one particular islander – TOWIE legend Joey Essex.
Love Island Aftersun Dishes the Villa Drama
The Love Island Aftersun premiere was full of juicy details as Maya and her panel of ex-islanders discussed the first week’s drama from the new 2024 season of the hit dating show Love Island. From love triangles to tough conversations, they broke it all down.
But the highlight was having Nicole’s mom Kelly and best friend Shannon in the audience to spill some tea on Nicole’s rocky romantic situation in the villa so far.
Nicole’s mom is not a Joey Essex Fan
When talk turned to Joey Essex’s arrival at the villa, Kelly made it clear she was not necessarily excited about her daughter potentially getting with the TOWIE star. Though she laughed about being turned into a “meme” after Nicole said her mom would be thrilled if they kissed, Kelly admitted, “I love Joey, but I didn’t want Nicole to be with him, no.”
Blossoming Romance with Ciaran
Instead, it seems Kelly and Shannon are rooting for Nicole’s connection with Ciaran Davies, even after he kissed fellow islander Harriett Blackmore. Shannon gushed, “I love him, I do, I think he’s so cute. He’s funny and she loves that.”
As for Kelly, she understood Ciaran had to “explore” with Harriett, though she didn’t agree with the kiss so early on. But she told Maya, “It’s early days” when it comes to Nicole and Ciaran’s romance on Love Island.

The Aftersun panel also discussed other villa relationships, like the drama between Ayo, Mimii, and Uma’s love triangle. The first eliminated islander Sam Taylor even revealed he was attracted to Nicole and Mimii as well.
He Had His Eye on Nicole Too
When asked by Maya who he fancied other than Samantha, who chose to couple up with Joey over Sam, he replied, “I’d say Nicole, Mimii as well. All the girls are lovely – every single one of them.”
Sam shared that though his time was cut short, admitting “24 hours, I didn’t have much time,” he bonded most with “the lads” who he said “gelled so quick” in the Love Island 2024 villa.

As the season progresses, viewers will have to keep tuning in to Love Island to see if Nicole takes her mom’s advice about avoiding a romance with Joey Essex.
