MAFS star Mel Schilling shares cancer update

Married at First Sight expert Mel Schilling has shared a positive health update, confirming her cancer is “in remission”.

Appearing on Lorraine today (January 13), the Australian reality TV star said: “I am doing well. The cancer is in remission.”

In December 2023, Schilling publicly announced that she had been diagnosed with colon cancer. She’s regularly shared updates on her treatment since, completing her final round of chemotherapy last August.

Reflecting on the past year with host Lorraine Kelly, Schilling said: “What a year!”

“On Christmas Eve last year, I just got out of hospital and I just made it home in time for Christmas,” she recalled, saying it was “pretty grim”.

At the time, Schilling said she was “feeling pretty grateful to be out of hospital but still in a lot of pain and recovering”.

Now she’s doing better, the dating coach had “[her] first cold Christmas” with her husband Gareth Brisbane and daughter Maddie. The family spent a few days in Salzburg just before Christmas Day.

“It was my first cold Christmas,” she said. “We went Christmas crazy!”

Schilling, who joined the MAFS world in 2019, will soon return to MAFS Australia. The new season will begin airing there from January 27. A UK release date is yet to be confirmed, but it’s not expected fans will be waiting long to catch the show on E4.
