Demi Moore is seldom seen without her little bundle of joy in tow—Pilaf, a barely-over-a-pound micro Chihuahua, accompanies her Academy Award-nominated actress mom nearly everywhere she goes, and her public exposure has made the peanut-sized pup something of an international star. After all, how many dogs can say they’ve been on the cover of Vogue? Well, the digital dog version, Dogue, at least.
The Thailand-born pup, which Moore’s daughter Tallulah found on Facebook during the pandemic, has seen more of the world than most humans. Pilaf the Little Mouse Moore (yes, that’s her full name), the Scorpio pooch (yes, she’s a Scorpio), has flown to Europe 14 times, been to countless Broadway shows, appeared on some of the biggest talk shows on television, has sat soundly at the French Open, dined at some of the most magnificent restaurants and visited some of the world’s most impressive museums. Is Pilaf the most cultured dog to ever live? Quite possibly—and we’re completely obsessed. Here, read all about Pilaf, Demi Moore’s “magical creature” of a pet.

Pilaf’s signature look
Aside from her minuscule stature and size, four-year-old Pilaf is known for another aspect of her appearance: her ever-present tongue that tends to adorably dangle out of her mouth. “She lost the teeth that hold it in, but it’s part of her charm,” Moore revealed during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Teeth or no teeth, Pilaf is a certified star, and it’s what led her to make the cover of Vogue’s dog issue, Dogue.

“I knew that she had really moved into a whole new category when my publicist got a call just for Pilaf to be on the cover of Dogue,” she shared on The Graham Norton Show. And Pilaf’s cover story was one we loved! Moore even revealed the origin story of some of Pilaf’s most common nicknames in the fun interview. “I added ‘the Little Mouse’ because I was working in France and it was sometimes difficult to say ‘Pilaf’ and have it understood. Because she’s so tiny, I was referring to her as ‘Little Mouse’ and realized in French that is petite souris. So then she became Little Mouse, then the nickname became Mouseketeer because she’s my sidekick, and then with all of her recent write-ups, we also nicknamed her Mouse Couture.”

Pilaf the almost-record breaker
Back in April of 2023, Guinness World Records crowned an itty-bitty Chihuahua named Pearl as the shortest living dog, coming in at a height smaller than a popsicle stick—prompting Moore to question Pilaf’s record-breaking abilities. “@guinnessworldrecords just announced the World’s Shortest Dog today. I don’t know about you but I think Pilaf might give Pearl a run for her money! Should we submit @pilaf.littlemouse??,” the actress wrote on Instagram. Though Moore went on to admit on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that Pearl had beat out Pilaf for the title, Moore joked that Pilaf might still be a little more deserving.
“I think that she and Pearl would be fast friends, but I think that she does feel that she’s perhaps better appointed,” she teased. “Her overall—she’s just perfectly proportioned.”
Record breaker or not, we can’t wait to see what adventures Demi Moore and Pilaf get up to!
