Nick & Vanessa Lachey On ‘Love Is Blind’ Season 8, Criticism

Because I’m committed to my craft as an investigative journalist, I took a business trip to Netflix HQ to get the Love is Blind season 8 scoop from the faces of the show themselves, Nick and Vanessa Lachey. I got tea on the latest group of singles of course, but I also needed an update on the results of five years of the “experiment.” Determined to get an honest answer, I straight-up asked these two how blind love actually is, on a scale of one to 10. They initially said it’s a “moving target,” but Nick landed on: “The foundation of love is truly blind.” (It’s giving: no, love is not entirely blind.)

Vanessa pointed out that if she answered with a number, she’d be giving me “our secret sauce and then we would no longer have a need for more seasons.” She quipped, “Why would you take this away from society?” For the record, I would never attempt such a crime… Love is Blind is my primary hobby. “Looks fade, but there is a physical aspect, we’re not going to lie about that,” the model admitted. “But love isn’t all looks, so I do think that love is blind.” There you have it, folks.

Read on to see Nick and Vanessa Lachey’s thoughts on the season 8 singles, how they’ve learned to deal with criticism over the years, and their best marriage advice.

I had to know how Nick and Vanessa feel about the season 8 singles and if there are any alarming red flags we should look out for. Interestingly, Nick claimed this is a “wholesome” group of participants. A bold statement indeed! I’ll be the judge of that when I binge the new episodes on Friday, February 14. “I do think they’re there for the right reasons,” he assured me. “I think it’s a more wholesome cast I would say than other seasons.” Vanessa agreed.

Nick also thinks that the Midwest vibe is almost a “character” in the show this season. “It’s just a different, totally different sensibility than, say, Washington D.C. was,” he reflected. “Singles operate differently… It’s fascinating to see how the city dictates a little bit of the personality of the show.”

According to Vanessa, we can expect more pod episodes than usual this season. “I will say this season they spent a lot more time relaying to the fans the pod aspect, because there was a lot more that they had to work out as couples and individuals,” she teased. “That’s a cool layer that we haven’t really seen a lot of.” Works for me — I live for a healthy dose of pod drama.

The Love is Blind hosts are no strangers to social media critics, and they’ve learned a lot about how to deal with that over the years. Vanessa shared, “Human being, any human being, whether you’re famous or not, whether you’re in Love is Blind or just walking down the street, if someone says something very hurtful to you, it’s like, ‘What?’”

At the end of they day, they’ve learned that they “can’t be everything to everybody,” Nick said. “You’re going to have one segment of the population who’s thrilled with what you did, and there’ll be others who aren’t, and you can’t ever expect to please everyone. So you do your job the best you can.”

Vanessa took a moment to flex, pointing out that Love is Blind is “Netflix’s number one unscripted show” and “their longest running original series,” so it’s always gonna have both the stans and the haters. She added, “People are going to love to hate things and they have opinions on it, and that’s what keeps people talking about it.” True. I still won’t shut up about my *strong dislike* for Art Dealer Leo from last season.

Nick And Vanessa Lachey’s Best Marriage Advice

Considering they’ve been married for nearly 14 years and have hosted Love Is Blind together for eight seasons now, I’d say Nick and Vanessa are certified marriage experts. Naturally, I had to ask about their best marriage advice (not for me… I couldn’t be more single if I tried). “It’s funny, we always say the best advice we can give is don’t take other people’s advice,” Nick responded. Valid. He explained, “What works for one couple, what works for one person, does not necessarily work for someone else.”

That being said, they did still offer solid advice. Nick noted that respect is a “huge thing” and “if you care about [the marriage], you got to work for it.” Vanessa stressed the importance of trust and a “foundation of communication” to help you and your partner work through issues.

She also had more crucial words of wisdom: “Sprinkle in there a little bit of shower sex, some jokes, some Netflix and chill, and you’re good.”
