A major Oscars rumour has just been debunked with a single Instagram snap.
As the red carpet began, rumours were circulating that Kamala Harris, former Vice President of the United States, would be making an appearance at the 97th Academy Awards.
This has now been disproven, with Harris’ husband and the former second gentleman of the United States, Doug Emhoff, sharing a glimpse of their at-home Oscars watch party.

In a photo posted to Emhoff’s Instagram story and X account, Harris wears a black jumper with her hair thrown up in a messy bun as she pours a packet of Doritos in a bowl – her Oscars snack of choice.
“Oscars watch party prep,” Emhoff captioned the photo, putting the rumours to bed.
According to reports from industry site Deadline, security around the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles where the awards are taking place is stricter than ever this year, with rumours it was all for the former Vice President of the US.

Deadline reported there is “a modern-day Praetorian Guard of LAPD, federal law enforcement and more shutting down Hollywood” so Harris can attend.
“The expected attendance of the former vice president is a major factor in the added security,” another law enforcement officer went on to say.
We now know that she wont be attending.

But Harris or no Harris, the security has still been at an all time high, Deadline reports.
Deadline reports that there was even more clearance required for red carpet reporters and crew and all reporters were pre-screen by police ahead of the event.
Harris has taken a step back from the public eye since stepping out of her role as Vice President on January 20, following her historic presidential campaign but she has still been spotted on occasion.

The former VP made her first TV appearance since leaving the White House at the 56th NAACP Image Awards in February.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, she received a standing ovation as she was honored with the Chairman’s Award which recognises those who “excel in public service and leverage their unique platforms to ignite and drive meaningful change”.
As she accepted the honour, Harris shared a message about the political climate in the States.
“While we have no illusions about what we are up against in this chapter of our American story, this chapter will be written not simply by whoever occupies the Oval Office – nor by the wealthiest among us,” she said, per the San Francisco Chronicle.
“The American story will be written by you, written by us – by we the people.”

Earlier, Harris and Emhoff were spotted in the crowd at the FireAid Benefit Concert in Los Angeles.
The pair were “grateful” to attend the concert and support their hometown.
”It is a wonderful night that shows the strength and resilience of our city as we begin to recover and rebuild from the devastating wildfires,” Emhoff wrote on Instagram.
