Love Island Australia Season 6 has officially crowned its winners, and Em, one-half of the winning couple, believes she played a significant role in securing the title. In a lighthearted comment, she joked that fans voted for her rather than her partner, Mercedes. However, in a December 17, 2024 interview with 9Entertainment, she clarified that their victory was a “team effort” and confirmed they would split the $50,000 prize equally.
Em and Mercedes Part Ways Post-Finale
Despite winning over viewers, Em and Mercedes announced their split after leaving the villa. Mercedes revealed that reality hit hard after their “grace period” outside the show. He explained how they mutually decided to take some space but admitted that the break
unintentionally led to a breakup.
Em candidly shared her confusion about the situation, saying
“I think I got home on Tuesday, and on Saturday, we agreed to take space. But I feel like the way Mercedes communicated that was a little lost in translation for me… I got that message and I was like, ‘We’re done.'”
A Friendship That Stays Intact
While no longer a couple, Em and Mercedes assured fans that they maintain a “solid friendship.” Mercedes mentioned plans to visit Australia soon with castmate Steph, while Em humorously reacted, questioning if she was really “super excited” about the reunion.
Plans for the $50,000 Prize
When asked about their prize money, Em expressed her desire to travel. She revealed plans to potentially visit Japan for snowboarding and Bali to spend time with fellow contestant Mimi. She also hinted at moving overseas next year but remained unsure about the future.
Mercedes, known for winning FBoy Island US twice, jokingly said he considered gifting Em the entire prize since he didn’t “need any more bags from dating shows.” Ultimately, they split the cash, acknowledging their collective effort as the strongest couple on the show.
