The legal saga surrounding Real Housewives of Potomac star Karen Huger is nearing its final stage as her sentencing approaches. As the reality star awaits the judge’s decision, her legal team has come forward to offer insight into her case. Recent court documents, accessed by the Washington Post, reveal the differing perspectives of both the defense and prosecution regarding the appropriate punishment for Huger’s actions.

David Martella, Huger’s defense attorney, expressed that the experience was deeply humiliating for his client. In his statement, he explained, “She was shocked with embarrassment,” adding, “She could not turn off the testimony or the body cameras. She could not get up and walk out of the room… The trial was a wake-up call.”
In the aftermath of the trial, Karen Huger checked into a rehabilitation center for a 28-day program, which caused her to miss the Season 9 reunion of RHOP. After completing her rehab, Huger returned home and resumed her commitment to recovery by attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings on a daily basis. Furthermore, her attorneys have shared that Karen Huger’s past experiences with sexual assault during her college years have had a long-lasting impact on her mental and emotional well-being.

While Huger’s defense team insists that she is on a positive path of recovery and should be given the opportunity to continue this journey outside of prison, the prosecution takes a different stance. Lead prosecutor Jordan Kramer has voiced his skepticism about Huger’s progress, saying, “The fact that Ms. Huger has repeatedly been given the benefit of another chance on three separate occasions demonstrates that she has not learned anything from her prior arrests. In fact, it appears as if she has been emboldened.”
In addition to the legal documents, RHOP star Robyn Dixon claimed earlier this year that this marks Huger’s fourth DUI incident, a point which has now been confirmed by the prosecution. Karen Huger’s sentencing is scheduled for February 26, with the star expected to address the court before the final ruling is made. The charges stem from an incident last year when Huger crashed into a tree, leading to her subsequent arrest and conviction.
