Reese Witherspoon recommends getting ‘into your hands’ to battle anxiety

On Thursday, Reese Witherspoon took to Instagram to share an important message with her followers about mental health. The actor took a page from Martha Beck’s book “Beyond Anxiety: Curiosity, Creativity, and Finding Your Life’s Purpose.” Inspired by the message in the book, the star gave her fans a tip to battle their anxiety.

Witherspoon recalled being with her friend’s daughter last week when the latter expressed getting nervous. The actor understood the kid’s feelings, noting that we live in stressful times. However, Beck’s book helped Witherspoon with a crucial tip to calm her nerves and navigate anxiety the right way.

The “Legally Blonde” star advised her friend’s daughter to “get out of your head and into your hands.” Witherspoon advised the high-school student to use their hands and be creative to overcome anxiety. The actor revealed that the two then made chocolates. Sharing her tip, Witherspoon said, “It doesn’t matter if you’re making chocolates, you’re picking flowers, you’re painting by numbers, you’re cooking a meal for your family or friends. Get busy doing something.”

This tip resonated with her fans, who also approved of the message while sharing their own thoughts and experiences. Some revealed the activities they take on while managing anxiety, while others expressed their gratitude to the star for sharing a useful tip.

Reese Witherspoon has previously opened up about her personal challenges and mental health. As per E! News, the actor discussed her struggles with finding “balance outside of work.” Speaking during her company Hello Sunshine’s L.A. event in 2023, she said, “I started to realize that isn’t going to work for me. About a year ago, I was like, ‘I was a robot and the robot broke.’ I cried and cried.”

Then, in 2021, she confessed to having panic attacks a few weeks before filming the 2014 movie “Wild.” The actor revealed she underwent hypnosis to treat her condition.
