It pains me to watch a good duo like Venita Aspen and JT Thomas fight. Their Season 10 falling out has caused ripples in the Bravoverse. And while most of the Southern Charm cast doesn’t seem too bothered by the split, I, for one, am just devastated by the broken friendship. As a viewer, I love nothing more than to watch friends get along. Bravo is known for its famed friend couples like Ramona Singer and Sonja Morgan and Porsha Williams and Phaedra Parks. So I really thought that JT and Venita could go the distance and make it to the record books.
JT Thomas and Venita Aspen’s meet-cute
The two became quick friends after JT became a cast member on Season 9. As a viewer, I felt like Venita was struggling at times to find her storyline since the rest of the cast had such deep connections. But with the introduction of JT, the two formed a banter that kept fans entertained. JT was the white knight as he helplessly fell for Taylor Ann Green and threatened a “f*ck boy exorcism” on Austen Kroll. All Venita could do was sit back and laugh. But the dynamic duo just worked.
In December 2023, the pair flew to New York City to appear on Watch What Happens Live together. Both Venita and JT engaged the audience and showcased their budding friendship. They laughed and joked with Andy Cohen and, all around, just seemed to have a nice time. It wasn’t missed that Venita was also very good at sticking up for JT. Even though he was an outcast from the King Street group, she made an effort to keep including him. Honestly, the action was sweet and not often seen on reality TV.
Venita Aspen called JT Thomas ‘yummy’
Personally, I sympathized with Venita. Everyone knows what it feels like to start forming a crush on a friend and have to work through those feelings. For the fashion influencer, she started to catch feelings on the cast’s trip to Jamaica. She shared in the premiere, “The first time JT and I bonded was when we were in Jamaica. Ever since then, we talk every day, which is kind of wild to say. But I feel like we’re just really close.” V kept falling for JT as she noted more than once he looked “Yummy.” Once while close shopping for the Carolina Cup and once while JT was yelling in a blue t-shirt.
Venita wasn’t the only one catching feelings. JT admitted, “You can’t teach chemistry. It’s either there or it’s not. And it’s there.” At times throughout this season, it has been hard to watch most of the cast ostracize JT. But Venita always spoke highly of him. In a sweet confessional, she noted, “I can see beyond the person he puts on in front of this group,” she said. “It’s like, I get Jarrett, and everyone else gets JT. JT has to be the big man in the room, but Jarrett is soft and tender and quiet and doesn’t have to put on in front of me. He’s like, ‘This is who I am.’”
Why their friendship was a significant part of Southern Charm
When it comes to friendships, it’s hard to let a relationship that you once held so close go. But this is what is happening with Venita and JT. Sadly, it is a bit of a travesty. For these last two seasons, following the duo on their journey has been nice. I have to admit I was even rooting for them to be a couple, but Season 10 had other ideas. But there are still positive lessons to be learned from them.
Venita is a powerful woman who has no issues standing up for those she cares about. Her loyalty to JT is outstanding and commendable. Time after time, the group would talk badly or even yell at JT, and V would stand by his side. Now that is a friend. Love him or hate him, I think JT was a good friend until he wasn’t. And yes, that is a thing. It happens. JT was a friend for a season and he has taught Venita a valuable lesson when it comes to choosing a loyal friend.
Southern Charm is available to stream on Peacock.
