Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag LA fires update: did they lose their home?
Pratt and Montag were among the many stars who lost their homes in the devastating LA wildfires, which destroyed thousands of structures and collectively killed at least 24 people.
The couple and their two sons had to evacuate their home shortly after the fires broke out and later announced on social media that their house had “burned down”.
Pratt shared imagery of their youngest son’s nursery burning, which was captured on a monitor that was still in the home when the blaze tore through.
“I’m so sad our house is gone,” Montag said in a tearful TikTok video. “It’s so sad for everyone.”
The pair said they were grateful to get out safely and later shared updates to social media as they returned to their home to see if anything could be salvaged.
The largest item that Pratt could find in good condition was a copper pot he used to feed hummingbirds with his children.
“I keep telling myself possessions don’t define my existence but it’s hard to accept,” he wrote on Instagram.
Fans showed their support for the couple by streaming Montag’s 2010 album Superficial, shooting it to the top of the iTunes charts.

“Thank you for the overwhelming love and support for my music and really rallying behind us at a devastating time and making it such a blessing,” Montag said in an emotional TikTok clip.
“Thank you for helping support us. For helping build us back up, helping to encourage us, giving us that hope and faith and excitement in such a dark, dark time.”
Pratt also responded to trolls who said he and Montag could afford to rebuild because they’re celebrities, noting that critics claimed they were “broke” for years before the fires but had since changed their tune.
Recent estimates put Pratt’s net worth at around $US2 million (approx. $AU3.2 million)
Who are Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag?
Born on August 14, 1983, Pratt grew up in Los Angeles and attended Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences, which counts many famous faces among its alumni.
Some celebrity graduates include Jonah Hill, Gwyneth Paltrow, Liv Tyler, Zooey Deschanel, Kate Hudson, and Brody Jenner, whom Pratt developed a close friendship with.
His first job in Hollywood was working on the short-lived family reality series The Princes of Malibu, which centered around Brody, his brother Brandon, their mother Linda Thompson and stepfather David Foster.
As a series extra, creator and executive producer, Pratt thought the Fox-backed show would catapult him to the top of the industry.
“I am gonna be a millionaire, like, in a month,” he recalled thinking in a December 2024 appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast.
Instead, the show was canned when Thompson announced she was divorcing Foster the day after the premiere.
Only two episodes ever aired and Pratt went back to film school after the series fell through.

His next big break came when he met Montag, who was born in Colorado on September 15, 1986 and moved to San Francisco to study at the Academy of Art University after finishing high school.
There she met and befriended Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County star Lauren Conrad and together they moved to LA in the early 2000s to study fashion.
That’s where she was offered a role on reality TV spin-off The Hills in 2006 and rose to fame, eventually attracting Pratt’s attention.
Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag’s relationship timeline
Pratt and Montag met at the LA nightclub Privilege in 2006.
She says the attraction was instant and mutual, but Pratt has confessed he was at the club because he knew The Hills stars frequented it and he wanted a role on the show.
He got what he wanted when he and Montag started dating and by 2007 he was a series regular alongside Montag, Conrad, Audrina Patridge and Whitney Port.
There’s no denying Pratt had feelings for Montag, who also hired him as her manager, and the pair even came up with a couple nickname for themselves: ‘Speidi’.
Unfortunately, not everyone was on board with their romance or his role on the show.
Pratt was accused trying to create drama to get more air time and draw attention away from Conrad, who had been the show’s focus.
“I was treating the show like a producer because I literally just made a show on Fox,” Pratt told Vice about his time on The Hills. “I didn’t know how to be on-camera talent.”
It caused tension between him, Montag and Conrad and the latter started to distance herself from Montag as their friendship deteriorated.

In August 2007, Pratt gave Montag a promise ring and they eloped in November 2008 during a romantic trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
“It was exactly the wedding I wanted,” Pratt told US Weekly at the time.
They tied the knot again in front of family, friends and many of their co-stars in Pasadena, California in April 2009.
The couple made their final appearance on The Hills in May 2010 and just two months later, Montag filed for divorce.

The Hills cast: Then and now
“There are so many lies out there about me and I just needed space – even away from my husband,” Montag told People.
Pratt told the outlet, “I love Heidi but our marriage was a show – it was part of The Hills world. And that world is on a sound stage.”
They called off the divorce two months later and renewed their vows in November that year, sparking rumours that the whole split had been a publicity stunt.
In 2017 they welcomed their first child, Gunner, followed by a second son in 2022 named Ryker.
Pratt and Heidi are still together and happily married today, almost 19 years after they met, and are focused on raising their children together.
Why did Spencer and Heidi get kicked off The Hills?
Pratt was supposedly kicked off the reality TV show in 2010 after allegedly threatening a female producer.
Reports from the time claimed that Pratt was originally meant to take a six-week hiatus and attend anger management sessions before returning to the show, but that didn’t happen.
Instead, his bad behaviour is said to have worsened and he and Montag left the show permanently.
There was also well-documented tension between Pratt and Conrad, who was one of the main stars of The Hills, before his and Montag’s departure in 2010.
After they left, Pratt’s sister Stephanie, who had been a series extra, took on a larger role in the show. The siblings have had a rocky relationship since.
Where are Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag now?
Before leaving The Hills, Pratt and Montag appeared on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2009 and kicked up controversy with their antics and allegations that they were “tortured” during production.
After their 2010 exit from The Hills, the couple appeared together on Celebrity Big Brother UK in 2013, followed by the E! Documentary special After Shock: Heidi & Spencer in 2014, We TV’s Marriage Boot Camp in 2015, and Celebrity Big Brother UK again in 2017.
Both are active on social media and now focus more on family life than chasing the spotlight.
