RIP to Tate McRae’s career — assuming that we’re all correct about her collabing with Morgan Wallen. On April 15, the “Greedy” singer shared an Instagram Story with a photo of an orange sports jersey emblazoned with “T8” and “MW.” While there was no caption or explicit announcement, this possible easter egg came about a week after the controversial country singer teased his first-ever duet with a female artist. (It’s not remotely surprising that he’s never worked with a woman before.) Tate and Morgan also follow each other on Instagram, so they’re clearly somewhat friendly. Sigh. Where in god’s name is Tate’s PR team? We haven’t even gotten an official collab announcement yet, and everyone on the internet (including me) is already furious about this. Girl, why him?? Why not ANYONE else? Let’s dive into this Tate McRae and Morgan Wallen mess.
Why Is Morgan Wallen Controversial?
Where to even begin… This is the dude who got himself suspended from his record label in 2021 after a video of him using a racial slur surfaced. At the time, Republic Records claimed that his racist behavior would “not be tolerated.” Morgan was also temporarily dropped from radio and streaming services including Spotify, Apple Music, and iHeartMedia. But alas, none of that lasted! His record label suspension is clearly over and he’s obviously on radio and streaming services.
He also decided to party with college girls in the midst of Covid in October 2020. He was 27 at the time. In addition, the singer’s been charged with a DUI and charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication. And most recently, he got arrested for throwing a chair from a Nashville rooftop bar in 2024. Basically, the guy’s a real gem. (He did do one good thing for society, which was gifting us the phrase “Get me to god’s country.”)

There’s no evidence to suggest Tate’s a Republican or a Trump supporter. In fact, she’s 21-year-old Canadian living in her little pop star bubble, so I doubt she even thinks about American politics that much. Tate doesn’t seem to follow any politicians on Instagram, and she hasn’t really discussed politics in interviews. However, she’s obviously an ally to the LGBTQ+ community (which doesn’t give Trump supporter). In February 2025, she told Pride that her queer fans are her “favorite.” She added, “No one beats them. Nobody is better than them.” Tate also revealed that her “whole team” is gay. Something tells me Morgan can’t relate!
Even though I don’t think Tate is a person with racist or alt-right views, it would be a very irresponsible and hurtful move for her to collab with this man. There’s no way she isn’t aware of his long list of controversies.
