When introducing the musical guests, most hosts keep it simple with just a few words, letting the musician take centre stage for their small part of the evening.
But not Brody.
No, Brody decided to pull off a stunt that even by the questionable standards of 2003 was uncomfortable to watch.
Wearing a dreadlock wig and putting on a Jamaican accent (important to note Paul, the musical guest, is in fact from Jamaica), Brody gave audiences an awkward spectacle to behold.
The 40-second introduction saw Brody enthusiastically repeat several somewhat stereotypical Jamaican phrases.
From there, he went on to to make jokes about Paul’s family all being named iterations of Sean, and made mention of Rastafari.
Rumour spread online that Brody had gone off-script – something Lorne Michales, the show’s creator, is known to hate – and was banned from ever again appearing on the show.
But now, more than two decades later, Brody has told his side of the story.
