This Morning’s Alison Hammond responds to age gap in relationship update

This Morning star Alison Hammond has addressed commentary about the age gap in her relationship with David Putman.

The Great British Bake Off host confirmed she is in a new relationship earlier this year, though she keeps her personal life relatively private. However, the star addressed her romance on This Morning for the first time last month, speaking to a caller about their first date.

Now, she has spoken about the 22-year age gap between the pair, saying it “bears no relation to what they have at all”.

“I can see how, on paper, you’d notice the age difference. But honestly, when we see the word ‘toyboy’ written about us, it bears no relation to what we have at all,” she told Good Housekeeping UK.

“Yes, I’m 22 years older than he is, but if you saw us together, you’d understand. People have said to me: ‘We get it now.’ He’s so mature and sensible, and I’m so not.

“And the things he says to me…they’re just so lovely. It’s like a jigsaw; we fit and it all comes together.”

It comes as the reality TV star had a touching interaction with This Morning caller Anita in which she thanked her for not sharing details about her relationship.

Anita spoke about meeting Alison during a train journey, saying the former Big Brother contestant made her feel “so special”.

After sharing her story, Alison responded: “Anita, what’s lovely about you, you’ve haven’t mentioned who I was with,” she said. “That was my very first date with my boyfriend. You met my boyfriend before anybody else knew about it.”

Alison also addressed engagement rumours earlier this year after being spotted wearing a sparkling ring while on the ITV show, which co-host Dermot O’Leary pointed out was on her wedding finger.

This Morning airs Mondays through Fridays on ITV1 and ITVX.
