Why Heidi Montag’s ‘Superficial’ Went No. 1 After LA Fires

Nearly 15 years after its release, Heidi Montag‘s candy pop album, Superficial, just went No. 1 on iTunes! As it should. “They say I’m superficial, some call me a bitch / They just mad ’cause I’m sexy, famous, and I’m rich” is one of the most relatable lyrics of the century. In all seriousness, the income from streams will help Heidi, her husband, Spencer Pratt, and their kids recover after they tragically lost their family home in the Pacific Palisades fire on January 8.

How exactly did Superficial take over iTunes in 2025, you ask? Well, Spencer started the streaming movement after their home was burned down, and several celebs have supported his efforts. (Sadly, Heidi and Spencer are among many celebs who have lost their homes to the devastating wildfires in LA over the past week.) Keep streaming Superficial on repeat to help Heidi and Spencer’s family, and here’s a comprehensive list of ways to help all those impacted by the ongoing crisis.

Here’s everything to know about Heidi’s Superficial going No. 1 on iTunes and Spencer’s next goal for the album.

On January 8, Spencer shared a TikTok video of their home burning and wrote in his caption, “Nightmare come true.” A few days later, he posted photos of himself in front of the remains of his home and asked followers to help out by listening to Heidi’s music. “Please stream any of @heidimontag music on any platforms it will make a huge difference,” the reality star wrote. And people understood the assignment!

Flava Flav (the biggest pop fanboy out there) and Emily Ratajkowski helped spread Spencer’s message, and soon enough, Superficial beat out Bad Bunny’s Debí Tirar Más Fotos for the No. 1 slot on iTunes — not an easy feat. Spencer was thrilled and shared an Instagram video celebrating the win and thanking everyone for their support. “Popstar Heidi Montag No. 1 on iTunes America,” he declared. “Thank you everyone! Who needs a house, who needs clothes, who needs anything but this level of clout, pop, superstardom? Our sons are gonna be like, ‘My mom was No. 1 on iTunes America.’”

But there’s more Superficial streaming to do! Spencer’s next goal is to get to the top of the Billboard charts. In a TikTok, he asked anyone “who owns a radio station or knows a radio station” to help get Heidi’s music played. “We need radio play, I guess, not just iTunes to get No. 1 on Billboard charts, which is the ultimate goal,” he explained in the video. “Cause then it’s like, that a wrap, Heidi is the biggest superstar in the world.”

In her own recent TikTok video, Heidi thanked listeners. “Thank you for the overwhelming love and support of my music and really rallying behind us in this devastating time and making it such a blessing,” she said. “Thank you for helping support us, helping build us back up, helping to encourage us, give us that hope and faith and excitement in such a dark, dark time.”

Well, I’m just glad Heidi and Spencer are finding this small silver lining… let’s all keep helping those affected by the fires however we can.
