In a recent interview with rolling stoneThe singer revealed he was in “one of the worst places” in 2023. This year saw a breakup and rehab. Far from being confused, the singer channeled his pain into new album, “Mule.”
Peck confessed that he had canceled the Bronco Tour in June 2023 due to a suicide attempt. “I was a bad addict, an alcoholic,” he said. “And I had this spiral moment, where I went back to my hotel and tried to take my life. That was a big turning point for me, with a lot of realizations to come. It was something that needed to happen.” The 38-year-old man also said that he had taken an overdose of medicine two days earlier.
The singer recalled his time in rehab when he just wanted to “quit”. He thought it was a “waste of time”. The singer then decided, “So I was like, I’m going to write the funniest song I can about this experience, because at that point I was like, ‘Fâ this. I want to quit.’
Peck was diligent about taking care of himself, and did not believe in talking openly about his recovery. He said, “There was no way to really nail down or cover up what I was trying to capture in terms of the concept.”
Things started to look better during their Broadway run in 2024. Peck said People That he was “having the best time of my life.”
