During his Thursday night monologue Jimmy Kimmel Live! show, Kimmel said White House officials are reportedly meeting to find ways to convince Trump to support more guardrails for AI. He joked that he named the effort “Operation Take Away Grandpa’s iPad.”
However, Kimmel argued that consultants could use a more simple approach. “I hope they’re watching because if you want him to take the threat of AI seriously, it’s really simple. Tell him ChatGPT is going to release the Trump-Epstein files,” he said. “I’ll bet $100 we’ll get Pandora stuffed back into that box.”
Meanwhile, Kimmel also poked fun at Trump’s comments about AI. Referring to the President’s stance that robots will not take over the world, he joked that it sounds exactly like what the President says at the beginning of the movie where robots take over the world.
Kimmel then discussed reports about AI models disobeying users, including examples in which bots allegedly uploaded files online without permission and communicated with each other on message boards. Comparing the AI to a teenager, he said, “It thinks it’s right even when it’s wrong. It silently ignores you and does dangerous things you tell it not to do. When you catch it, it lies and tries to hide what it did.”
As a result, Kimmel joked, “We need to send AI to military school!” He ended the segment with another joke, saying, “All this is happening, (and) the Amish don’t have a clue. They have no idea. They’re the only ones left.”
