UK lawyers are representing Tristan and Andrew Tate Want the criminal proceedings against him in Romania to end first. However, his attorney, Andrew Ford, declined to defend Andrew’s comments about women, saying, “I don’t sit here for a second defending any of those comments.”
Andrew Ford says Tate’s “exaggerations” aren’t enough to excuse his comments about women
In an interview with Leigh Ann Gerrans of Al Arabiya English, Ford began by saying that the defense believed the Romanian proceedings should be given priority over the British case. Proceedings begin in 2022. He said sending the brothers to Britain before the Romanian case was resolved could make it difficult for them to defend themselves in the Romanian proceedings.
The journalist then asked the lawyer about Tate’s public comments about women. He pointed to her claims that women are “man’s property”, that they should be able to “do what I want” and that women should not drive. He then asked whether such comments made the defense more difficult. The lawyer acknowledged this and said he did not defend the comments.
He said, “I am not sitting here for even a second to defend the comments that you have just mentioned and many others. And the context of those comments is that they are hyperbolic.” However, he argued that the trial and hearing should focus on evidence rather than social media posts.
Andrew and Tristan Tate are currently involved in legal proceedings in the US, UK and Romania. The brothers were arrested in Miami in July after Britain requested their extradition. He was arrested by US Marshals on a sealed warrant as British authorities were seeking his extradition to face 59 charges. This includes rape, sex trafficking, and other crimes related to child indecent images and extreme pornography.
The brothers have been detained at the Federal Detention Center (FDC) in Miami since July 18. British authorities want to prosecute the brothers over allegations involving multiple women between 2010 and 2017. Romanian authorities have accused Andrew of involvement in minor trafficking and money laundering. Tristan was accused of involvement in trafficking of minors and money laundering.
