Bendadon claims he was racially profiled and unfairly detained during arrest in Texas
During a recent livestream, Beard gave his account of the encounter that occurred early Sunday morning, October 4, near the campus of Texas A&M. according to ComplexHe said he believed an officer singled him out because of his race. Beard said he believed he was racially discriminated against by police. “I’m not here to make it into something crazy, but obviously I feel I was racially profiled,” he said.
Beard also claimed that an officer appeared determined to arrest him and said he was exploring legal options. “He zoned, he chose and he said, ‘I’ll grab your ass, brother,'” Beard alleged. “So, we’re doing the legal thing. We’re on it 1,000%. I was wrongfully accused. I was wrongfully detained.”
He questioned why officers tried to detain him, saying he had already complied with orders to move to the sidewalk. He asked, “What am I being detained for?” And he added, “Because the only order was to get on the sidewalk. I’ve been on the sidewalk since the first order. Since the first order.”
Beard denied doing anything that would justify his detention. He said, “I’m not bullshit or anything. I just told you to stop putting your hands on people.”
However, the police provided a different version of events. College Station officials said officers were clearing people from the street outside a bar in the Northgate district when they encountered a group who reportedly refused to comply with orders. Police said Beard attempted to flee when officers moved in to take him into custody, leading an officer to use a “less lethal device.”
Police booked Beard into the Brazos County Jail on charges of evading arrest or custody and set his bail at $7,000. His case is pending.
