Hilary Swank Addressing the criticism of motherhood at older ages, the emphasis is on the double standards women face when having children later in life. When people questioned her decision to have children later in life, Swank spoke out. The two-time Oscar winner recently announced her third pregnancy at the age of 52.
Pregnant Hilary Swank isn’t keeping quiet about being called ‘too old’ to have kids
During an upcoming interview with Drew Barrymore, she discussed the backlash older moms often face. “Women get a lot of reaction to having bigger babies, but men don’t, which is interesting,” Swank told Barrymore. The host called the double standards “bizarre” and pointed out that men can have children even after the age of 80.
Swank, who welcomed twins Aya and Om with husband Philip Schneider in 2023, recalled a woman who criticized her for becoming a mother at an older age.
“How dare you? You are too old,” the woman allegedly told him. However, Swank tried to understand where the criticism came from. The woman told that her father was her favorite person before he died when she was 20 years old.
Swank related to that loss as her own father also passed away. Still, she reflected on the value of loving someone deeply, even if their time together seemed brief.
“I would rather be born and have the person who is my favorite person and experience that than not be born at all,” she said.
Swank announced her pregnancy on Instagram on Wednesday, sharing a playful family video with Schneider and their twins. The family danced in the dark with glow sticks attached to their costumes, while Swank showed off her baby bump.
“A lot of people have been asking what project I’m doing next, it’ll be releasing in December,” she captioned the post, adding baby and heart emojis.
The actor later stepped out in New York City proudly showing off her baby bump ahead of her appearance on Barrymore’s talk show. His comments have sparked renewed discussion about the different expectations society places on mothers and fathers.
