A royal expert has praised the Sussexes for what they consider a wise move, and suggested it could save the aging monarch from a potentially awkward situation during the holiday season.
The couple returned to Britain on 26 August, but since their return there has been speculation over whether they have reunited with Charles, Queen Camilla or the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s major Christmas move is reportedly the ‘smartest thing’ they’ve ever done
Royal expert Katie Nicholl has praised Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for reportedly making a wise decision about their Christmas plans. speaking on royals uncensored Podcast, Nicholl reportedly praised the Sussexes for choosing to spend the festive season in the United States with Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, rather than waiting for a possible invitation to celebrate Christmas with the royal family.
Nicholl pointed out that an invitation from King Charles to spend Christmas at Sandringham seemed unlikely. Even if the monarch were to invite the Sussexes, he suggested the gathering might prove awkward given ongoing tensions within the family. Rather than wait for an invitation that will never come, the couple has reportedly decided to make alternative plans with Markle’s mother.
According to the royal expert, the decision could also save Charles from having to deal with a potentially uncomfortable situation during the holidays. Nicole said: “I think the way they’re sidestepping it so neatly, taking themselves out of the equation, being proactive in the right way, might get them some brownie points.”
Meanwhile, a friend of Sussex told The Sunday Times Harry and Meghan will do whatever “Doria wants them to do” for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The couple previously spent their son Archie’s first Christmas in 2019 on a private holiday in Canada. In later years, he celebrated the festive season at his home in Montecito, California.
However, the Sussexes have also been advised not to try to reconcile with the royal family too quickly. Grant Harrold, the royal family’s former butler, has urged the couple to approach the prospect of spending Christmas with Charles with caution and allow any reconciliation to develop slowly.
Harold clarified his position, saying: “I don’t think it would be a good idea for Harry and Meghan to attend a royal Christmas this year; I think it’s too early.”
