Ben not only directed but also starred in Argo, a political thriller based on the true story surrounding the Iran hostage crisis of the late 70s and early 80s. The film had a budget of over $40 million and grossed over $200 million at the box office.
While he did not receive an Oscar nod for Best Director, Ben did win a Golden Globe in that category in 2013. Ang Lee won the Academy Award for Best Director that year for Life of Pi.
